I dunno about Ohio, but in the UK Gail is a predominantly female name. I suppose $10,000 worth of music, video and apps might dilute the pain of living in Orpington somewhat
If I had won that giftcard, I would've actually started a thread where the first 50 people to comment would get a 99c game of their choice.
Ahh man, I saw a UK winner, had hope, then that the download was paper glider and was even more hopeful. Then I saw Gail and thought... Hang on, they've spelt my name wrong.
The most annoying thing about it for me is she probably isn't even that interested in the App Store, not as much as the likes of us anyway. She probably uses her iPhone strictly as a phone and once a week downloads a free app out of boredom as she travels home from work. What's the point in giving away a prize if it doesn't go to someone who really wanted it?
I'll just say it, I'm jealous. I wish it would've at least gone to someone who'll buy good stuff with it. Unless things are different in the UK, Gail seems like an old lady name to me, meaning she probably has little interest in the store. Meaning that the majority of that money is gonna sit for a long long time, after she buys her share of music. Of course, I don't know her, so I might be completely off, but it just seems like the only people that win these things don't deserve it. What a sense of entitlement I have lol Just bugs me that one doesn't even have to have ever bought anything, nor owned an idevice, to win.
Ah come one stop being sore losers none of us would have won either way. For all you know, she could be Steve Jobs' secret lover and she could own every App on the Store
Sheesh, what's with all the hate on the woman who won? The chances of you winning out of the millions who use iTunes and the App Store are minute at best. Just get on with your life. It's no use sapping over ten thousand bucks that were never yours in the first place. In my opinion, it's alright to be disappointed that you didn't win, but then to slander about who did really ticks me off.
Not quite right but nearly Paper Glider was actually downloaded by one of her daughters and she didn't even know and hung up on Apple when they called A mother from the UK has spoken of her shock at becoming the customer to make the 10 billionth download from the Apple App Store. Gail Davis, from Orpington, Kent, said that it was her two daughters who purchased the Paper Glider game from the online store. Apple, who run the store for its 160 million iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users, have declared Ms Davis the winner of its Countdown to 10 Billion Apps competition meaning she will receive a 10,000 dollar (£6,250) iTunes gift card. Ms Davis told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I have to confess it wasn't me who downloaded it but my daughters. "It's a game to see how far across a room you can launch a paper plane. I had no idea when Apple phoned me, I thought it was a prank and I declined to take the phone call. "My daughters told me they had downloaded it and they knew there was a competition and that we may have won it. "I had that moment of blind panic but Apple kindly phoned me back and said I was a winner." Will the above annoy you even more
Actually that's much better. At least her daughters were aware of the competition. I wasn't hating on the specific person for winning anyway, I just think competitions are best aimed at the people who know they're entering. Picking a random person off the street isn't as sporting.
