Negative. I found one called purely "Silver Rime", +100 Starting gold, nothing else.
Crit causes the attack to AE on an Engy. That alone makes it worth maxing. 260x1 is great, but 200x8 is better.
Is the XP you get off of fortification based off of how much damage it absorbs? I seem to get a lot more XP with this method if I kill off enough...
