Edit: Just found out, You can get a helicopter with an "Action Replay" addon for the DS.
On the DS there is a cheat which turns the 'Bulletproof Patriot' at the automerchant into a helicopter.
Whenever I try to enter a code the letters just spaz out so that I can't complete the code :confused:
If you tell us a cheat that allows me to fly a helicopter I will send you an iTunes gift card.

Well to me the shooting feels a little bit clunky, but it doesn't really detract from the game at all.
