You will miss some information and backstory on the characters but the cases themselves are new and don't rely on any knowledge of the previous games.

To put it in perspective the game is $15 cheaper on iOS then on the 3DS so it's pretty much on sale already. And on the 3DS it was downloadable...
Takes about 26 to 32 hours to complete. Not sure the size yet haven't bought it yet.
No it's separate, it's like a side story it doesn't belong with the main story.
It's just like the 3DS there is the main story set for $15 and a DLC special story for $5. You can also buy costumes or the episodes individually.
