paths yes, curves paths seems sometimes result in a better score like level 56 : 864 with the ball going straight and 866 with the first arrow at...
level 18 2 paths: same result..... and I think it's a quick relaunch? with your last screen, try first arrow like 2-3 pix down and left and...
alice level here some dif path for these level. I didn't remember if those arrows are one of the "too many" pos for 769 but the idea is there.....;)
