Was already fixed but I'm not sure if I did it in 1.15 or 1.16 as it wasn't in my bug fixes list for some reason.

1.15 no longer wastes vanish when there's no valid symbols.

Agreed. Also 1.15 adds the run away button so it's quick to run out of combat if you mistakenly run into one.
