Hmm... That doesn't work on mine, it's Ship + Ship + Ship = new random ship... There are no recipes that I've seen that use a random material slot...

Forging a ship does not use any material in the third slot. The formula is Ship + Big Spare Parts + Starship Plans.... no room for variation on...

You have a chance to make a legendary ship each time you upgrade in the forge or forge three ships together. Upgrading in the forge will update...

I have never seen anything but the standard base-level ships in the store. To get a higher rarity, you need to upgrade through the forge.
You would get a random level 14 ship. Rarity will be at least an average of what you put in, with a chance of being better.
Everything you earn during the event will remain in your inventory -- the only things you need to secure before the 9th are the Arc Targeting...
