I built the entire thing for around $600, $100 of that was the OS, and the GPU was around the same.

Yeah, my rule of thumb is every 2 years, get the latest device, but if you're coming from an itouch 4, anything is better :)
The 4s is cheaper than the others, and I haven't seen any problem with it as far as games go. The only downside is the smaller screen.
