I don't see competition as a big game mode here, so I don't find your argument very convincing either. This isn't a pay-to-win game where you are...
For me, besides the space survival, it's also that I am super duper excited for both of them to be released.
It looks like there's a fair bit of randomness, a roguelike in that respect and others. This isn't a pure strategy game.
Or you could just play it to have fun and not worry about competing. Up to you.
