Only way to gain it back is by going home. There might be a skill from a gene later in the game that does it for you, but am unsure about that.
Do you mean you cant find the second puzzle that removes the second part of the fire wall? Just making sure before i post answer.
For anyone having troubles with puzzles, here is a link to the official guide that gives the solution to each puzzle in the game....
You get them automatically at certain points in the game, you dont "find" the rings like a treasure or something.
