No its not om every level, but in some boss that are to difficult

You will find a shield with red dot on the top if you wanna get NPC like if you find the girl statue to checkpoint
You could buy a revive, gold, grade S cloak, and memory shards ini black market (memory shards let you have a npc to help you in the boss battle)
