It was more than two years ago in February of 2021 during Sony’s State of Play showcase that Square Enix first announced Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, a compendium-type mobile game that looked to retell the entire saga of Final Fantasy VII including all spinoff games and other media. More than a year later in June of 2022 we got a fresh look at Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis during the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration event, with promise of more details and a beta test coming sometime that year. However, the following December saw Square Enix push back the beta testing period to the summer of 2023. Well, check that calendar because the summer of 2023 is here. First, check out this new trailer that dropped during the Summer Game Fest event today.
As you can see at the end, pre-registration is about to kick off so keep your eye on the official website and, as is typical with free to play mobile games, help unlock different tiers of rewards by pre-registering on either iOS or Android. And if you happen to be on the Android platform, you can also visit that same site to sign up for an opportunity to join the closed beta test on Android which kicks off today and runs through June 28th. I really love the idea of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis and uniting the entirety of the Final Fantasy VII universe into one more cohesive experience, however I truly hope it sees a better fate than Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, which was announced at the same time in 2021 and has since launched and subsequently shut down earlier this year, all before Ever Crisis could even get its beta out the door.
