To me, my board! As discussed in our story about the last update to the excellent card battler Marvel Snap (Free), the latest season of the game is called The Power Cosmic. The new season is now live and we’ve got all the details about what it includes, with a pretty Radd character leading the charge. I apologize for nothing.
So yes, as you can probably surmise, the big new character riding the wave of The Power Cosmic is none other than the Silver Surfer. His Cost is 3, and his Power is 0. Well, that’s not very powerful at all. Feels like Squirrel Girl could take this sucker out. I mean, canonically, she can. That’s her whole thing. But in Marvel Snap, the Surfer has a handy extra ability that will ensure he finds a home in many a deck. When he is played, his On Reveal ability will give all other 3-Cost cards +3 Power. Oh yes, now you’re imagining the possibilities.
The bummer is that, like all other new season characters, Surfer is really only available for the time being in the Season Pass for The Power Cosmic. That will also give you some spiffy card backs, icons, titles, and variants of other characters such as The Collector and The Infinaut. A whole bunch of resources too, of course. That Season Pass costs the usual $9.99 USD, so do what you will with it. A Brode’s gotta eat, after all.
Apart from the goodies in the Season Pass, a few more cards are scheduled to be added to the regular Collection Level Track and Token Shop assortments. Later this week, Black Panther will be added as a Series 5 card. We talked about him when we covered the Warriors of Wakanda season. Next week will see the addition of Knull, a Series 5 6-Cost 0-Power card whose special Ongoing ability gives them the combined Power of all cards destroyed in the current game. A great addition to any destroyer deck, no doubt.
On December 20th, the final two cards of the year will be added. Sentry is a Series 5 4-Cost 8-Power card whose On Reveal ability adds a -8-Power Void card to the right location. Because of this, Sentry cannot be played at the right location. You’ll have to get creative with him. Finally, we’ve got Darkhawk. Darkhawk?! He’s a Series 5 4-Cost 1-Power card with the Ongoing ability of having +2 power for every card in your opponent’s deck. He might be a good counter for some popular strategies.
One thing you’ll be seeing without any money or luck are the new locations. Lamentis-1 has players draw three cards and then destroys both decks. Wow. Klyntar merges all cards at the location into a Symbiote after turn 4. Vormir, true to its appearance in the Avengers movies, will destroy the first card you play on it. Finally, Morag won’t let you play your first card on each turn on it. This… is going to be a rough month. Should be fun.
That about covers it. I still can’t stop playing this darned game, so I’ll be doing updates like this until I get bored. Do look forward to those.
