In the middle of last month we brought you the news that Soul Tide, an anime dungeon crawler RPG from developer IQI Games and publisher LemcnSun Entertainment, was up for pre-registration following a successful beta testing period. After a tremendous response to the pre-registration campaign, it’s finally time for Soul Tide to officially launch out into the world. And when might this be happening, you ask? How about… tomorrow! That’s right, the game’s official launch date is March 29th at 9am (UTC-7) which, if my feeble time zone skills are correct, should mean 9am Pacific and 12pm Eastern for those of us here in the US. Not long to go now!
As you can see in the trailer below, Soul Tide is a blend of several different genres. At its heart it’s a hero collector RPG with a huge roster of fierce female combatants to acquire, called Dolls, as you fight back against an evil witch who has plunged your world into darkness. The game’s story has a dramatic anime-inspired flare and utilizes the Live2D animation feature to bring the entire thing to life.
What really strikes me about Soul Tide however is how the turn-based combat takes place from a first-person perspective, similar to old-school dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Master. Your team of Dolls is represented in a row of avatars at the bottom of the screen who all react and animate according to the action taking place, but when you trigger one of their powerful Ultimate Attacks, which is unique for each Doll, the real fun begins as the game switches to an entirely animated scene showing the attack play out. It’s pretty awesome.
Besides amassing a roster of Dolls to do battle in sweet first-person view as you fend off the evils of the world, you’ll also be in charge of running the household where your Dolls reside when they’re not out saving the world. This involves elements of a home simulation game where you’ll build out, decorate, and upgrade the various parts of the home where your Dolls live. And if all that wasn’t enough, there are elements of dating sims built in too, as part of your job will be too take the Dolls out on dates and try to woo them with gifts and affection.
Yes, Soul Tide is truly a blend of many genres, but one that seems to handle it all in a cohesive manner. There are many hero collector RPGs on mobile, but this is one that stands out as being particularly unique. If you want to give it a shot for yourself, you can download in for either iOS or Android and all new players will receive a bonus of 20+ free draws and an exclusive outfit. As mentioned the game will go live tomorrow, March 29th, at 9am (UTC-7).
