Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for February 23rd, 2022. Kind of a typical Wednesday this week, with a little slice of news, a few new releases to check out, and a modest list of sales to consider. The next couple of days have some neat stuff going on, so consider this the calm before the storm. The never-ending storm that is the Nintendo Switch release schedule. Watch out for flying objects. ‘Wonder Boy Collection’ Announced for Switch Release
Wonder Boy is just everywhere these days. The Switch in particular has seen a lot of Wonder Boy games come to the platform, but some of the classic originals are still missing unless you have met some very specific requirements. Luckily, there’s a solution coming from ININ Games, Strictly Limited Games, and Bliss Brain. Wonder Boy Collection features four games from the series: Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and Monster World IV. Strictly Limited Games will also be selling a special Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection that features more Wonder Boy games and additional versions of some of them. We’re still waiting for full details on these sets, but there is a trailer to watch in the meantime.
New Releases
For The Warp ($19.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
It’s another roguelike deck-builder, but this one is different because it’s in space! Explore strange procedurally-generated systems, seek out new cards and new strategies, and boldly go… to the nearest warp gate. Make friends, make enemies, and do whatever you have to in order to survive. You’ll fight, you’ll find new tech, and you might even find yourself poking around ancient ruins and such. This game has very strong reviews on other platforms, and I’m sure those who enjoy other games in this genre will find plenty to like here.
Edge of Eternity ($29.99)
Edge of Eternity is an RPG that is probably too ambitious for its own good. It looks absolutely gorgeous at times, but if you start scratching at things it all begins to crumble. Not that there aren’t things to enjoy about it, but you kind of have to take the good with the bad. And this Switch version adds another issue to the mix: it’s a Cloud Version. Yes, this is a streaming game, so make sure you consider your internet connection before you go anywhere near it.
Explosive Candy World ($4.99)
This rather modest-looking effort is a mix between precision platforming and physics-based shenanigans. Use explosive candies to destroy obstacles, interact with objects, or propel yourself through eighty single-screen stages. Sure, it’s not a standard platformer, but the five-dollar Switch platformer soul still burns.
Darkness and Flame: Missing Memories ($6.99)
Hey, it’s another hidden object adventure game. This one is about a young woman named Alice who has a special power and an amnesiac fellow named Colin. There are fifty locations to explore, a whole bunch of minigames to play, and dozens of puzzles to solve. Not my bag, but perhaps it is yours.
