Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Zookeeper World’, ‘Jetpack Joyride’, ‘Cozy Grove’, ‘The Oregon Trail’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There are some really big updates to a number of games this week, especially if you’re an Apple Arcade subscriber. There are some other cool updates even if you don’t, though. I’ve picked my favorites for you to look over as you get your week going. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Dan The Man Platformer, Free Apparently, Jetpack Joyride is ten years old. Wow! Time sure moves fast. Anyway, as Dan the Man comes from many of the same folks behind that game, the developers have decided to celebrate that milestone with some cool Jetpack Joyride-related content. There are new levels and missions based on the game, with the inevitable trip to the Legitimate Research facilities. Robo Barry, Professor Brains, the Legitimate Research Scientists are available as new skins, and there are naturally some new emotes and event icons as well.

Jetpack Joyride, Free Well if that’s what’s going on in Dan the Man, I can’t wait to see what Jetpack Joyride is doing for its own anniversary! It’s… it’s having a Fruit Ninja event? What kind of Halfbrick Matryoshka doll am I getting into here? Well, that’s how it is, I suppose. Take part in this limited time event to get some Fruit Ninja-themed goodies, like a Fruit Jetpack and a Sensei costume. Sure, that’s fine.

PAC-MAN, Free I have a buddy named Grey who talks about Pac-Man all the time. It’s on his mind non-stop, it seems. One of many who can’t seem to get this forty-year-old franchise out their minds. While this particular app likes to do events and crossovers, this particular update is focused on the core experience. It contains 30 new levels for the Story Mode, some Arcade Machine upgrades, and a bevy of bug fixes and performance improvements. More Pac-Man, which my pal will surely be interested to hear about. Not bad.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, Free GWENT is a title I will never fully get used to. It sounds like someone wants to say that a person named Gwen left, but in a clever way. Like, oh Gwen? Yeah, she GWENT that way. Ha. But no, this is that pretty good card game from The Witcher, and like any card game with some length in its teeth, it relies on expansions to keep people interested. Geralt heading out to the local merchant to buy some booster packs. At any rate, this update is almost entirely dedicated to the new expansion, Harvest of Sorrow. There are new cards and ornaments to check out, so I recommend doing that if you have any questions. .

Mortal Kombat, Free Mortal Kombat only gets updates every once in a while, but this last week was one of those once in a whiles. That was an awkward sentence, sorry. Let’s see what this update has to offer, eh? The main thing seems to be the addition of a new character that was hotly requested by the community: MK11 Nightwolf. Make good use of his spirit animals to get the edge on your enemies. There’s a new tower to tackle, some new Brutalities, a little set-up for Halloween, and some improvements to the UI. Also some bug fixes, because why not? If you’re going to the kitchen anyway, you might as well bring your plate.

Zookeeper World, Sure, this isn’t really that similar to the real Zookeeper. It’s more typical of free-to-play matching puzzle games like Candy Crush Saga. But I’ve certainly enjoyed it, and in fact cleared all 200 stages with all stars collected a little while ago. What to do now? Fortunately, an update has arrived. It adds fifty new stages, which means some new zoo decorations and two new animal types: the camel and the hippo. A tricky new puzzle element comes with them in the form of balloons that need to be collected before they reach the top of the play area. And, well, I’ve already finished all these new stages with all stars collected. Oops! Apparently new stages will be added monthly, so I’ll have to hunker down.

Cozy Grove, Cozy Grove gets a little cozier with its second major update. The Autumn Update adds quite a bit to the game. Like hey, you can now go inside your tent and decorate the interior. You an upgrade the tent to get more rooms, and decorate them too. Like in that one game! There are now cats that you can lure into your tent and keep. There’s a Halloween event scheduled to start on October 20th, which should be fun. Other additions: an accordion, a photography mini-game, bunnies, new clothes, new decorations, more clothing closet slots, new background music, and more. I think I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. That feels cozy.

Disney Magic Kingdoms, Free Hey, Walt Disney World is 50 years old! Seems like a good chance to celebrate the real thing in Disney Magic Kingdoms, and that’s just what Gameloft is doing. New attractions, concession items, decorations, and costumes inspired by the ones at Walt Disney World Resort have been added to the game for you to collect and use. There’s also a limited-time Halloween event featuring the classic hitchhiking ghosts, Ezra, Gus, and Phineas. It also brings in the much-loved Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion attraction at the real parks. Spooky!

The Oregon Trail, Gee, this game is killing it with its updates like dysentery kills my poor travelers when I’m playing it. This newest version includes a brand-new full-length journey called The California Trail. New regions, new content, new events, gold, nitroglycerin, a new prospector class, more fish to catch, and plenty of new sights to see. Unrelated to that journey, there is a new quest, a contracts feature, and a cool new gallery where you can check out artwork after completing contracts. Throw in some balance tweaks and performance improves, and that’s the lot. New places to die, what’s not to like?

Wonderbox: The Adventure Maker, Seriously, a good week for substantial updates. Wonderbox has a new campaign named Arcane Uprising where you’ll have a chance to become a master magician. The level cap has been raised to 80, there’s a new feature that allows you to follow creators, and there’s a whole new building set called Masters of Magic. New blocks, new items, new characters, and a whole lot of spell-casting fun. Other than that, I can see a bunch of little tweaks and adjustments to make the game more pleasant to play, plus improved compatibility with Apple Silicon. Well, that’s a nice note to end on. Let’s do that.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
