Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 23rd, 2021. In today’s article, we’ve got a little bit of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news to look at before we go into the new releases of the day. There are four new games on the eShop today, and it’s a bit of a rough bunch. Don’t worry, the next two days will more than make up for it. We finish things up with a look at the new sales of the day, along with the sales set to expire tomorrow. Let’s have a look and see what we’ve got!

‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Hosts Sonic’s Birthday Party This Weekend
Hello, young Shaun. In the future, there will be a Nintendo fighting game with almost every character you can imagine and then some in it. Simon Belmont will be there. Mega Man will be there. Even Pac-Man will be there! And on the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, Nintendo will have a little party for Sonic in their fighting game. He’s there too, of course. That would be a fun conversation. Anyway, the latest Spirit Board event celebrates Sonic’s 30th anniversary. Sonic characters will appear during the event, and defeating them will earn you more gold than usual. Like Sonic’s gold rings, you dig? The event kicks off on Friday and runs for the usual three days.
New Releases
Worms Rumble ($14.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
I’m not going to lie, friends. When I saw Worms Rumble on the Nintendo Direct last week, I thought it must be far from complete because its performance looked quite… inconsistent, to say the least. Much to my surprise, it’s out today. Well, maybe the clip they used in the Direct was from an earlier version? And maybe you just don’t care, because it’s Worms and it’s not like there’s an emphasis on smooth gameplay in this kind of thing. But wait, this one plays out as a real-time game, not turn-based. Hm. You can play with up to 32 players online in cross-platform multiplayer, with a few modes to keep things interesting. I’m not sure if this is what I want from a Worms game, but perhaps it’s to your liking.
Blocky Puzzle ($4.99)
Benjamin Kistler is basically recycling his honeycomb game from last week, but with a few new puzzle shapes. The idea is the same: you have a pattern that you need to fill using set shapes. Place them successfully and you’ve solved the puzzle. The hexagon puzzles from the previous game return, along with square and triangle puzzles. Like many of Ben’s games, this one is handheld only due to requiring touch controls. I suppose if you’re into these kinds of puzzles and don’t feel like playing the dozens of free ones on your phone, you could pick this up and help Ben afford his next template purchase from the Unity Asset Store.
Ninja Buddy Epic Quest ($4.99)
Pix Arts seems to have found a lively template this time around. This is a side-scrolling platformer about a ninja named Buddy who is trying to rescue Princess Zebda, who I am assured has no relation to any other princesses. There are thirty levels to play through, coins you can collect and spend on upgrades, and a few boss battles to fight. Definitely sitting in that Croc’s World category, where you probably wouldn’t feel bad about throwing a buck at it but likely don’t want to go as high as a fiver. That still puts it in the top 1% of Pix Arts’ releases, I suppose.
Bitmaster ($4.99)
Here’s a cheap and simple twin-stick shooter from the folks at Sometimes You. Battle against one hundred waves of enemies using an arsenal of eight different weapons. There are five different characters you can unlock and use, and thirteen different perks you can take advantage of. There are some boss battles along the way and the enemy variety isn’t too shabby overall. The game has a striking, colorful look that sometimes makes it a bit hard to read what’s going on. Otherwise there is little that stands out about this game except its reasonable price.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
The few Bandai Namco games that weren’t in the last sale appear to be making up for it today. There are also some nice prices on games from Drink Box like Severed and Guacamelee! 2. The outbox has a fair number of games that don’t go on sale all that often, but nothing exceptionally rare that you would need to rush out and buy right now. Have a look at both lists and usual and decide for yourself, of course.
