Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Another interesting mix of games this week, again with a handful of familiar faces and a bunch of lesser-seen friends to go with them. There are lots of cool games in this week’s line-up for you to enjoy. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind, $9.99 Some games appear in these articles often. Others… almost never. I’m happy when I get to bring in one of the games I personally love, and Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind fits that bill. The latest update adds a new spirit to find, changes some things to set up the upcoming sequel, and makes a whole ton of fixes and adjustments for various reasons. Perhaps a meager reason to fire up the game again, but I don’t need much more than that to surrender an evening to Six Ages.
Jetpack Joyride, Free Not a whole lot to report for this update, but the game is still pretty popular so let’s go over it anyway. The Bling event is back, and it’s essentially the same as it was the last few times. The same prizes, the same goodies to collect, that kind of thing. Jetpack Joyride gets a truly new event every once in a while, but it feels like it’s just going to keep shuffling some of the more popular past events between those instances. Not really a bad thing, but if you’ve already gotten your fill from this event when it came up before there probably isn’t much here for you this time.
Dan The Man Platformer, Free Uh, so for some reason Dan the Man is having a Halloween event in May. I can’t decide if it’s mega-early or mega-late, but the reality is that it is here now. Specifically, it is a Vampire event. There are new arenas, a new Vampire fighter to unlock, and some new rewards. Vampire and Golden icons, to be specific, plus some new emotes. Look, I don’t know why it’s Halloween time, but you could make the argument that vampires are welcome all year. People certainly aren’t shy about welcoming big vampire mommy into their hearts at the moment, at least.
Death Road to Canada, $14.99 Update time for the awesome Death Road to Canada. It’s called Liver, named after the developer’s favorite food. You get six new recruitable special characters, a new perk, a new trait, a bunch of unlockable hats, more character customization options, new locations, new weapons, a new event, and a whole lot more. Gratuitous. I love it. Really doesn’t take much thinking to give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. Go get it if you haven’t already.
Temple Run 2, Free For some reason, the font that the developers used on the logo of the latest update had me reading its title as ‘Blazing Bands‘, which actually sounds kind of awesome? Like, the Temple Runners and the Demon Monkeys have a Battle of the Bands to see who gets to keep the idol? I’d be into that. But no, it’s ‘Blazing Sands‘. You’ll have to run through this harsh, desolate environment and avoid the obstacles that litter your path, hopefully unlocking some new outfits for your troubles. I guess it’s fine. I guess. Sigh.
Toon Blast, Free And here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. It is Toon Blast, because I don’t feel like digging about looking for something better. Don’t worry, there’s a better matching puzzle game update coming, but it’s not free-to-play so it doesn’t check the box. The theme this time around is “First Meeting", and the update notes aren’t giving us much more than that. I suppose it explores the deep origins of how the various Toons met. Probably on IRC or something.
Subway Surfers, Free If memory serves, the very first stop on this wild world tour the Subway Surfers have been on for the last several years was indeed Copenhagen. And now they head back there again for the game’s ninth anniversary. There’s a new legendary surfer named Trym with a decidedly Nordic theme, a new Viking board to collect, and a new Nordic outfit for Lana. Grab tokens as you make your way through the gorgeous city and earn some cool goodies in the Season Hunt. To celebrate the anniversary, the Birthday Board can be nabbed for free for a limited time.
Star Trek: Legends, Sure, I like looking at the icon with Picard in it. Hello, Captain. This latest update adds Episode 7 to the game, continuing the story of the crew of the U.S.S. Artemis. Torchbearer hits the Nexus as a collectible character, as well. The rest of the update appears to be concerned with bug fixes and tweaks to the UI. Important things to be sure, but not the most thrilling things to write about. But hey, Picard.
Grindstone, See, here’s that better game I was talking about a couple of paragraphs ago. I mean, I guess I threw its name in the title so I don’t know why I was trying to build suspense. Could have been better planned. Anyway, this update adds a new shrjine to the Daily Grind called Fortune Grind. Hit the wheel and with the consequences you must deal. I moved some of the words around from the update notes to make it rhyme. I hope you liked it. Or at least can forgive me if you didn’t.
Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!, Free This update kicks off Season 2 for the game. It’s called Running Outta Time!, so probably some time travel business going on there. There are new rewards to collect, new bosses to fight, and a bunch of new themed skins to grab. The Seasonal Gangs kick off with a roster including N-Tropy, Fake Coco, Tiny Tiger, and… The Noid? Really? It seems to be a universal truth: nothing that was ever popular at any point will ever actually die. Rounding out the update: a new Survival Run named Dino Might, the new Beach Jungle, and assorted bug fixes and optimizations.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
