SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘World Splitter’, ‘Space Marshals’, and Today’s Other New Releases, Plus the Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 21st, 2021. In today’s article, we cover the usual Wednesday news before heading into summaries of the new releases for the day. There are a few games to check out, though nothing enormously exciting by my estimation. There are a handful of new sales to look at, and a pretty hefty list of outgoing sales for you to think about before it’s too late. Let’s get down to business!

News

Earn the All Supports Item in the Next ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event

I guess some weeks even Nintendo has a bit of trouble getting out of bed. There’s no special theme to the latest weekend event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or at least not much of one. It’s a Spirit Board event that seems to be celebrating supporting characters, with a chance to get your hands on a precious All Supports item. On top of that, you’ll also get three times the usual SP. The event kicks off on Friday as usual and will run for the typical three days through the weekend.

New Releases

World Splitter ($19.99)

World Splitter is a puzzle-platformer game with a gimmick we’ve seen a few times before. You have to divide the screen into pieces and manipulate the sections to help you reach the goal. This kind of gimmick is usually pretty enjoyable, but a lot of it will come down to how well the levels are designed and whether or not the platforming part of things can hold its end up. I haven’t had a chance to play this one yet, so I can’t really say how it fares on those points. I’ll let you know if it proves to be a pleasant surprise.

Space Marshals ($14.99)

Oh hey, Space Marshals! Mobile gaming fans will surely be familiar with this series of top-down shooters. The series takes a slightly more tactical approach to its action than many of its peers in the genre, and it’s an awful lot of fun. This is a Switch port of the first Space Marshals, and it comes packed in with all of the content that arrived over the course of time. Still awesome after all these years, for sure. Unfortunately, it’s following the route of many mobile ports by cranking up the price for what is essentially the same game. You can get this for four bucks on the App Store and it plays great on mobile devices. It’s worthy of being sold for fifteen dollars, I would say. The mobile version is cheaper than it should be, all things being equal. But the reality is that you’re paying almost four times the price if you want to play this on your Switch, and that’s only going to be worth it if you have particular needs and preferences.

Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room ($9.99)

Hmm, I wonder what ‘Palindrome Syndrome’ actually is? Like, is it an overwhelming urge to make statements that read the same forwards and backwards? Are all of the puzzles in this game able to be solved in reverse? Probably not, that would be a bit too avant garde for what appears to be a run-of-the-mill escape room game. Compared to other games in the genre, it’s on the easier side of things. It also has a pretty messed up ending. It takes a few hours to get through, and I can’t really say it gave me any strong feelings either way. But hey, if you want another escape room game, this is certainly one of those.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Well that’s a small list. I suppose it would have to be, given how much is already on sale and the size of the outbox. You might think that would mean there’s nothing worth considering in the selection, but AVICII Invector is an excellent rhythm game and Gemini Arms is a super-cool shoot-em-up. Of course, the big turkey today is that outbox. There are a lot of Bandai Namco games in there, and those will be back around before too long. Never a bad time to pick them up, though. Apart from that, Blasphemous, Monster Sanctuary, Overcooked, and a whole lot of other great games are in the list. Have a good look, friends.

That’s all for today, friends. Tomorrow is Thursday and it’s looking to be a serious big-pants day for new releases. I count twenty-six on the schedule, and that’s not counting any surprises that might crop up. From Picross S6 to the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy to Shantae and even a vegetable committing tax evasion, we’ve got a lot to go over. And go over it we shall, chums. I hope you all have a terrific Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
