Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for May 19th, 2020. It’s a bit of a shorter one today. No real news worth talking about at the time of writing, and I’m not quite finished with the reviews I’ve got cooking. That means we’re really just looking at the new releases for the day, of which there are four, and the list of new sales, of which there are many. Well, at least the new releases have some cool games among them. Let’s have a look and see what we’ve got!
New Releases
The Wonderful 101: Remastered ($39.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
Hideki Kamiya seems to have some bad luck at times. The games he directs are usually great, but seem to get overlooked for some reason or another. In the case of The Wonderful 101, it had the misfortune of being a new exclusive IP on the Wii U. Unless your game is called Splatoon, that’s bad news for sales. But like Okami and Bayonetta which earned greater recognition through re-releases, The Wonderful 101 is giving it another go. It’s an odd take on the character action genre that Kamiya helped popularize, and it certainly takes some patience to reveal its true quality. In some ways, this remaster improves on the Wii U original, but in other ways it somehow falls short. Like, the framerate is actually worse here, which strikes me as odd. Oh well, it’s still a fun, somewhat frustrating game even if it’s not as smooth as it once was.
Golf With Your Friends ($19.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
There are a lot of golf games on the Switch, though it’s surprisingly hard to find a conventional one. Well, Golf With Your Friends isn’t going to solve that issue, but it’s still a heck of a lot of fun. It’s a wild take on miniature golf that up to twelve players can play together online. There are nine themed courses available to play on, offering a considerable amount of variety and sheer quantity. Since it’s video game golf and not real, power-ups are a thing that can exist, and they do. Perfect for turning things around in a pinch. If you get tired of normal mini golf, there are a couple of other modes to play with. All that, plus costumes for your ball? Sounds good to me.
Discmaster ($7.99)
Ah, the roller coaster of emotions that this game took me in my brief time researching for today’s article. When I saw the promo art that portrays a piggish take on Harry Potter, I just rolled my eyes. Then I looked at the screenshots and for half a second thought this was an indie take on Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8. That would be exciting. Then I kept on reading and saw it was more like a slightly fleshed-out take on Tic-Tac-Toe. Which I suppose is fine, but I got all pumped up there for a second. Oh well.
The House of Da Vinci 2 ($9.99)
Well, it makes sense. Da Vinci was a pretty rich guy, he could probably afford a second house. Just as the first game did, The House of Da Vinci 2 makes its way to Switch after a successful life as a mobile title. It’s an adventure game along the lines of stuff like The Room, with lots of areas to explore that are filled with tricky puzzles to solve. The story is fully voice-narrated, and there are some vague cut-scenes that are meant to raise questions more than answer them. I’m not sure whether any of the bigger sequels to The Room will ever come to Switch, but in their absence this is quite a capable substitute.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
Okay, maybe saying there were many new sales might have been a little bit of an overstatement. But there is a healthy amount here, with titles like Voxelgram, Broforce, Ape Out, and Sparklite leading the charge in terms of quality. As for the outbox, there are a few interesting games in there that may not be back around for a bit. Munch’s Oddysee will probably follow in the footsteps of Stranger’s Wrath and only turn up in sales every few months or so. Hob and Torchlight 2 will likely be back around before too long, but they’re certainly worth picking up. You know the words: have a careful look through the list yourself!

That’s all for today, friends. Tomorrow has at least one game on the schedule right now, and we’ll be taking a look at it and any other games that come rolling in. There will be some news to cover, and whatever sales hit between now and then will also of course be included. Perhaps a review, but that will as always depend on time. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
