Today industry veterans Bill Wang and David Brevik announced the opening of their brand new game development and publishing studio called Skystone Games, and along with it came the announcement of the first two games they’ll be adding to their portfolio. The first is a co-op focused game called Spaceline Crew which, while it looks cool and all, is only coming to consoles and PC as far as we know. The other game however is an incredibly unique looking take on the zombie survival genre called Undying from developer Vanimals that was originally announced about a year ago as coming to consoles and PC, but now has been officially announced as coming to iOS and Android as well courtesy of Skystone Games. Undying was originally to be part of the ID@Xbox showcase during GDC this year, but since GDC didn’t happen, they showcased it in video form in the following trailer which gives an excellent overview of what the game is all about.
I think that anyone who played through Telltale’s The Walking Dead – Season 1 game can tell you how great the emotional impact of having a young child be central to a zombie apocalypse plot can be, but Undying’s take on the matter where the mother is infected and tasked with protecting and teaching her son how to survive while she’s literally turning into a zombie is a pretty heavy one indeed. Undying will be kicking off a week-long closed alpha test this Friday (all testing spots are already full, unfortunately) and is targeting an early access launch on Steam soon, with the full launch planned for later this year. It’s not clear if the mobile versions will launch alongside other platforms or come sometime later, but either way we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
