SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Rock of Ages 3’ Release Date Set, ‘Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble’ Crosses Over With ‘Wargroove’, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for March 11th, 2020. In today’s article, it’s a whole lot of news and a whole lot of sales. That’s about it, as we curiously don’t have any new releases to look at today. I have a couple of big reviews cooking, but they still need a day or two before they are baked to golden brown perfection. Still, we’ve got plenty to consider just with the sales alone. Let’s wade on in!

News

‘Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break’ Hits Switch on June 2nd

Some rolling stones can’t be stopped, and although Mick and crew are probably the top example of that, ACE Team’s hilarious rough-and-tumble Rock of Ages series is holding up its end of things in the gaming world. The third game, Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break will be hitting the Nintendo Switch and other platforms on June 2nd. The trailer above gives you a bit of insight into the team behind it and shows some gameplay footage. It looks like another heaping helping of the weird game of boulder-rolling fun. If you haven’t already tried it, the second game is available on Switch right now. Not really any pressing need to catch up on the story or anything, but it’s good times.

The Next ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event Truly Fits

Another Wednesday, another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event announcement. It’s one of the more reliable sources of news each week, if nothing else. And sometimes you get an interesting one, like the event that will be going on this weekend. It celebrates Ring Fit Adventure by adding three spirits from that game to Smash. You’ve got five days to add them to your personal collection, starting this Friday. I mean, you’ve at least got to get that buff dragon. He’s so beefy!

‘Arcade Archives Kiki Kaikai’ Releases Tomorrow

The latest Arcade Archives release has been announced by publisher Hamster. Kiki Kaikai, the quirky 1986 Taito shoot-em-up that would later be known in the West under the Pocky and Rocky label, will hit the eShop tomorrow for the usual price of $7.99. As opposed to the usual warplane or space ship themes we tend to see in shoot-em-ups of this vintage, Kiki Kaikai features a Shinto shrine maiden using charms and wards to battle a wide variety of evil yokai and other spirits. It’s odd in a good way, and the action is superb. I’ll cross my fingers that this is some kind of prelude to a new game in the series from Natsume Atari similar to the revivals of Wild Guns and Ninja Warriors.

‘Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble’ and ‘Wargroove’ Are Mashing Up

Well yeah, I guess that makes sense. Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble and Wargroove are two different attempts to pay homage to Nintendo’s Advance Wars series, and while that means they’re technically competing with each other, it seems like both parties feel there’s plenty of room in the pool. As proof, Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble will be getting a free DLC map featuring Wargroove‘s Caesar. The map will be accompanied by new paid DLC titled Will of the Shogun that contains 39 maps. As of now, this DLC only has Japanese release details, but I’d imagine the rest of the world won’t see too many differences. The DLC hits tomorrow, and the paid content will sell for 400 yen, which should work out to somewhere around four US dollars.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Three big publishers are hosting sales starting today. Ubisoft brings in most of its line-up, and there’s plenty of good stuff to consider there. WB Games has its usual deep discounts on LEGO and Scribblenauts games, and Mortal Kombat 11 is on sale as usual. Finally, Nicalis is running some quality discounts on their selection if you feel like giving them your money. Aside from those, there are some intriguing discounts on Cities: Skylines (which doesn’t run all that well on Switch and apparently will not be getting any further patches to that end) and the Phoenix Wright Trilogy. There’s also plenty of cheap junk if that’s your thing.
