In today’s article, we’ve got news about another Wii U game making the hop to Switch, summaries of today’s new releases including the interesting-looking strategy game based on The Dark Crystal, and a big list of cool sales to check out. There’s lots of good stuff to see today, so let’s get into it!
News
‘The Wonderful 101: Remastered’ Coming to Switch in April
Another step in the goal of bringing pretty much every interesting Wii U game to other platforms, The Wonderful 101 was long-rumored to be coming to Switch and has finally been confirmed. This colorful action game is the most recent work of Hideki Kamiya, famous for games such as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and Okami. In a curious turn of events, Platinum Games has taken to Kickstarter to bring the game to Switch and other platforms with Nintendo’s blessing. It smashed through its ludicrously low goal of $50,000 within a half hour and at the time of writing is well on its way past the million-dollar mark. Interestingly, the game appears to be largely finished as digital and physical copies are going to be delivered just two months from now in April. Cool.
New Releases
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics ($19.99)

The latest release from BonusXP is another game based on a Netflix show. This time around, it’s The Dark Crystal‘s turn. And those cool folks have gone and made a turn-based tactical RPG, which is a surprisingly good fit for the license. Now, I’m no fool: not all of BonusXP’s games have hit their mark. But the team’s history is rich with great strategy games like Halo Wars and Age of Empires, so I’ve got very high hopes for this one. We’ll have a review of this one in due time, so hold tight if you’re not sure about it.
Wide Ocean Big Jacket ($7.99)

Hey friends. If you’ve been a regular reader for a while, you know I like a good little story now and then in games. And Wide Ocean Big Jacket offers just that. Not much more than that, mind you. It’s about an hour and change long, with lots of nice dialogue and some very chill visuals. It tells the tale of a family camping trip, and it’s just kind of a nice way to spend a spare evening. Again I have to stress that it’s a rather compact thing, with just eight explorable areas and a near-total focus on telling a story. If that sounds alright by you, feel free to plunk down your eight bucks and enjoy.
Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 3 ($49.99)
Well, now there’s a third one. Someone is clearing buying these things, and I imagine those people are exactly who this latest installment is for. It brings the 2019 Supercross season to video games, complete with 100 riders, 15 official stadiums and tracks, and a new compound to run around in in co-op mode. A track editor is included so that you can make and share your own courses. It’s touting new physics, which is probably a good thing given the previous couple of games. Uh, I would also hazard a guess that the above screenshot is not fully legit in spite of the fact that it is included in the official Switch marketing material. Or maybe that’s how the game looks after you chug a couple Monsters? I don’t know.
Hair Mower 3D ($5.99)
Some games are more evocative of the classic age of the App Store than others, and this one really feels like it felt out of a 2009 mobile junkpile. Basically you’re running a mower over various 3D objects, clearing the hair, weeds, and whatever else is growing on them. Dodge enemies and try to reveal the object. Grab milk to temporarily knock enemies away. Eh, it’s six bucks, so we’re not exactly dealing with the top tier of the eShop here. If it amuses you with its odd premise and/or mustachioed child protagonist, it at least won’t break the piggy bank.

Wow, lots of sales today. And lots of cool games in the list to boot. All those Steins;Gate games, the fun PixelJunk Monsters 2, great prices on the Trine trilogy, and many others. Make sure you check through the list and see if there’s anything you want to grab. The outbox, on the other hand, is both small and uninteresting. All four of those games will be back on sale before too long, so grab ’em if you want or wait if you don’t. That’s the deal.
