As mentioned on the podcast, I’m in beautiful Los Angeles today to attend the Summoners War World Arena Championship 2018 Americas Cup. It’s on the waterfront at the S.S. Lane Victory, which seems like a pretty neat venue. Tickets are free, and they’re running a promotion where you not only get a swag bag if you come out, but you also get 750 crystals (in-game currency) for each person who attends. So, the more people who show up, the more goodies everyone gets. There’s also going to be other giveaways, cosplayers, and… a ton more. It really sounds like they’ve put a considerable amount of effort in making this a great experience for attendees, which I’m excited to experience as most esports events I go to are all about the stream.
Speaking of the stream, if you can’t make it, the whole thing is going to be streamed on Twitch and YouTube with the stream beginning at noon Pacific. The below video should just start working when the stream is live:
I was hanging out at the host hotel bar last night with a bunch of top tier Summoners War players, and the energy surrounding this championship is amazing. Summoners Wars is one of those games that has been super popular forever, and it has been real neat talking to people who just are completely absorbed by it and play at the highest levels. Events like these are a real celebration of that dedication. If you’re in the LA area and want to come check it out, all the info and tickets are over on Eventbrite, and as I mentioned, it’s totally free.
This used to be my go to game.. until I released 99% of the time is spent letting the game auto itself in the hope that one of the 200 runs will give you a teeny teeny stat increase. I took en enforced break for 2 weeks due to real life.. and when I came back to play my brain just went 'woah' this is actually boring as hell. One day I will have to get round to selling my 40+ NAT5 account. However when you are playing, the game is like heroin, but any illusions you will be able to join these top tier players, or even hope to have a chance to catch up or enter this competition.. forget it.
