Welcome back to the SwitchArcade Roundup, where we’re chatting new releases including Payday 2, some news, and pointing out some new and soon-to-expire sales! The world of the Switch is staying busy, with a ton of titles continually popping up, including the interesting dilemma of mobile games releasing on the platform. It’s interesting how the Switch is basically an Android tablet, and yet people are willing to pay console game prices on the platform, yet won’t on iOS or Android, hmm? Always worth keeping in mind. Perception is an interesting beast…
News
SN30 and SF30 Pro Firmware Update
The Pro Controller is full of technology, but it is also really expensive. You can get some decent wired controllers for $20-$30 (the PowerA one is quite competent), but only 8Bitdo has wireless controllers in that midrange, that are compatible with the Switch and many other platforms. The company does have to play whack-a-mole with the Switch’s firmware updates to maintain compatibility, but they’ve caught back up to Nintendo with their controllers. This latest firmware update, version 1.25, enhances analog performance in Switch mode. Now if only this controller would support MFi controls…
Danmaku Unlimited 3 Switch
The popular indie shoot ’em up is getting a Switch release after its 2017 release on Steam and mobile. If you enjoy a little bit of bullet hell to go along with a ton of flashy effects, this is the game for you. While it works really well as a mobile game. The game will support portrait orientation in “tate" mode, along with an ultra-wide mode. Expect this one to hit on March 13th for $9.99.
Rocket League/WWE Crossover
Psyonix announced a crossover with the WWE, which will include some in-game customization items along with a bunch of appearances on WWE properties. I hope we get a John Cena skin…invisible rocket car!
We're continuing our partnership with @WWE, including new in-game items later this year! Details: https://t.co/zGmp0LYdfs pic.twitter.com/PPaEP0TMu1

New Releases
Payday 2
Now you can play Payday while robbing a bank. The one issue with the game is that while it has online, it doesn’t support voice chat, so coordinating with teammates to successfully rob some banks and avoid the fuzz will be tricky. The game is a few months behind the content on PC, and you’ll have to put up with some framerate and resolution dips a times, but otherwise this is the full Payday experience, just on the go.
Toki Tori 2+
This Metroidvania-style puzzler is available for an “introductory price" of $9.99, though it’s not listed as a sale on the eShop, so we’ll see if this stays at that price or not. It’s a unique puzzler, complete with an intricately-designed style of puzzle where everything is just about learning how to use your core abilities, rather than having any artificial barriers to progress. Amazing that a puzzler released on the Game Boy Color after the Game Boy Advance came out would still be kicking all these years later.
The Final Station
tinyBuild’s first Switch title has you traveling through a post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled, landscape, trying to rescue survivors and fend off the undead with the help of your train. You’ll have to keep your train up and running, and go through deadly scenarios to try and rescue the living…or perhaps let them die and loot their corpses. It’s a harsh world, after all.
Sales
Never Stop Sneakin’
($9.99 from $14.99 until March 12th) The Switch exclusive is now on PC, though to tempt you to pick up the Switch version, it’s on sale. This is a parody of Metal Gear Solid‘s ridiculous melodrama, complete with that PS1-style low-polygon look. The whole game has the structure and controls of a mobile game, to where the whole thing works on touchscreen, and is best enjoyed in short bursts. It’s an amusing diversion, and if you love Metal Gear Solid but also like to joke about it, this is worth checking out.
Wheels of Aurelia
($5.99 from $9.99 until February 28th) Santa Ragione, the developers of the fantastic FOTONICA, have an intriguing interactive fiction game available on the Switch. Each playthrough is short, but there are 16 different endings as you explore a bunch of different stories through the Via Aurelia in Italy. This sale ends tomorrow, so get on it now if you’re intrigued.
Mad Carnage
$3.99 from $4.99 until March 15th) Need some turn-based strategy with cars? That’s what Mad Carnage provides, as you duel with opponents in a dusty post-apocalyptic environment. There’s a 20-level campaign to go along with local multiplayer. At that price, if you’re intrigued, why not?
