‘Songbirds’ Is an Upcoming ‘Electroplankton’-Like Musical Zen Puzzler

TouchArcade Rating:

If you never had a chance to play Electroplankton on the Nintendo DS, early next month you’ll have the opportunity to play a rad-looking iOS game called Songbirds – Playful Music Creation from Pelican 7 which looks like it does a great job of riffing on the formula. Pelican 7 are developers of Lily , which is another cross between an interactive musical game and a touchscreen toy sort of thing, so these guys have experience in building things like this.

Much like Electroplankton, in Songbirds you interact with three different environments that all are capable of creating different melodies. If you’re not a musical person, it’s easy to look at games like this and think, “What’s the big deal?" However, it always seems like people from musical backgrounds are able to create really awesome stuff inside of games like this. And heck, even if all you do is diddle around in it, there’s definitely a niche for these zen game experiences on the App Store.

Songbirds will be launching on August 3rd for $1.99, but if you’re anxious to get a start on a similar style of gameplay, check out Lily from the same developer.

Hope they bring the Layton top down rpg London Life which came as a bonus on the DS Last Spector game.

      Might try this game though.

I’m 6 cases in and LOVE this game! Just makes so much sense for the platform. Also the Global puzzles are so fun to have on the side! Really packed with features so price is def not an issue! This is NOT what we’re used to call a “mobile game”, this is a real AAA for our handheld!

Completely agree Shaun! It makes me sad looking at the game thread and people are complaining about the game as being not very good / not deserving of 5 stars because "too much dialogue" and "puzzle aren't all high level." Puzzles SHOULD be varying degrees of difficulty, that's a given. And if you don't want dialogue, why are you buying a puzzle game that has an adventure story in it? That's how all the previous Layton games were too. There are lots of other puzzle apps on the app store that can offer you that "only-puzzles" experience -_- I don't even know what to say anymore..
