New ‘Transformers: Forged to Fight’ Trailer Unveiled at New York Toy Fair, Coming this Spring

TouchArcade Rating:

Back in early December, Kabam and Hasbro announced a new mobile fighting game starring everyones’ favorite transforming robots called Transformers: Forged to Fight. Being from Kabam, makers of the overwhelmingly successful mobile fighter Marvel Contest of Champions (Free), most people figured this would be a Transformers re-skin of that existing game. Well, that’s largely true, but as pointed out in an interview with one of the game’s creative directors later that month Transformers: Forged to Fight has a few new tricks up its sleeve for fans of Kabam’s Marvel-branded brawler. The two most significant changes are the introduction of ranged attacks and the ability to side-step attacks by swiping up or down and moving towards the foreground or background. This means fights are technically taking place in a 3D space but are still largely fought on 2D planes like normal. Anyway, at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend, Hasbro and Kabam released a new trailer for Forged to Fight, and it’s looking really great.

Ok, so, as I’ve admitted plenty of times in the past, I was a huge addict of Marvel Contest of Champions. Like many free to play games though, it eventually began to feel like a chore trying to gain all the MANY different resources to upgrade my heroes, so after much contemplation and soul searching I finally deleted the game from my device. However, I had a tremendous amount of fun for nearly two years before that point, and I look back fondly on my time with Contest of Champions. Based on that I was actually pretty excited about a Transformers-themed version of the game. Unfortunately, while Forged to Fight is currently in soft-launch in the Danish App Store, it’s also region-locked meaning just having an iTunes account in that region will only allow you to download the game but not connect and play. If you use a VPN on your device you can spoof your location to Denmark, where the game is soft-launched, and play that way, but if you aren’t trying to jump through VPN hoops then look for the global rollout of Transformers: Forged to Fight sometime this spring.

This is still one of my favorite games. Every few months I play a round and then play obsessively for a week.
Killed the lord of the dream with the thief repeatedly on velociraptor.
Gotten to him with the paladin and the Necromancer but haven't even come close with the other classes...

May I know what your Lord of the Dream killing strategy is? (if it's too spoilery for your likings you can tweet me @Patashu0 )

Pretty much just try and get rid of the attack cards and (almost) only take cards that let you draw another one upon playing. Use preparation etc for double damage and then dice, backstab. By the end of the second world I play my whole deck each turn. Most fights don't last past one or two turns. I have a few seeds for games that I have defeated him if you want them.

      Sold!

I've passed by this game for years. I just can't get past those graphics. They're God awful.
But I always hear good things about it

As did I until around 6 months ago. Now I play it daily, it's a gem.

Some of the graphics look like they were drawn by a child. That's because they were!

Honestly you either just forget about the graphics in a short period of time or you embrace them.

      2. Serotonin

My experience was this: after 10 minutes, you don't even notice the graphics.

      3. MagIor

So does this mean you've skipped a vast majority of rogue likes then also? Up until incredibly recently, they weren't particularly pleasant to look at.

Great game and even greater dev story. I can't wait til I get my call up haha.

Even though this is considered a App Store gem and a great game it stood no chance of getting featured by Apple which is unfortunate. It's really too bad apple puts so much on design and looks over actual gameplay and fun.

Anyways this game is out of this world good hopefully some people will give it a shot after the reload read! Thanks for the reload.

For what it's worth, Touchmint, I still consider Quest to the Future to be the ultimate in stripped-down, strategy heavy dungeon crawlers. The game's mechanics are solid, intuitive, balanced, and above all -- interesting. As a matter of fact, that's what was on my mind reading this review: how each class can be played in so many different ways, how replays unlock new features, how it's just this fascinating, intellectually stimulating exercise wrapped up in an unassuming package. Thanks again, btw, for making it!

Hey thanks! It means a lot I put a lot into it and thanks to the ta community's input it turned out really well. Hopefully my upcoming game does as well.

    5. Patashu

Vouching for this game as well, I put (not sure how many, let's say 100?) hours into this game just trying to win with every class, and when you assemble that perfect deck it feels awesome.

    6. Hpmor

A really great game. And the graphics, while terrible on an aesthetic level, are at least easy to read and functional.

    7. korossyl

I wouldn't call the graphics "ugly" per se. There's nothing offensively bad about them. I think the ugliest game covered here, by far, has been (the also apparently great) WazHack. That's a game I could not bring myself to ever download, so hideous is the presentation. Dream Quest's graphics are just simple.

      1. bigred447uk

You're missing a treat if you let presentation put you off from trying WazHack.

        1. korossyl

Yeah, I know. The RPG Reload made it sound really phenomenal. But while I don't need my graphics to be pretty -- Exhibit A, Dream Quest -- I just can't play a game that I find visually grating. I wish I felt differently about it.

    8. baelnor

Incredible game I still play regularly.

    9. RichardC

My favorite IOS game as well. Also the most played of any IOS game I have. The graphics have grown on me so much that now I like them!

    10. Aggro Magnet Games

As much emphasis as is often put on graphics in games these days, it's sometimes surprising how little they matter to how much fun a game actually ends up being.

I recently had an experience where I sat back and watched some friends playing Mario Kart 8 -- and I was actually surprised and impressed at how nice the graphics were, even though I'd previously played the game numerous times myself. While actually playing, my brain had just been tuning out the graphics!
