It seems like today is the day for games that have been out in Japan forever to hit the US App Store. Following closely behind the Pokemon Duels news is Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag (Free). If you’re not big into anime, chances are you’ve never heard of it, but thankfully like all things anime Wikipedia is on the case. Kicking off with a series of novels, then eventually expanding into animation and video games, the world of Sword Art Online revolves around a virtual reality MMORPG called Sword Art Online. It’s a little like The Matrix, in that players jack their mind and senses into Sword Art Online and if you die in-game you die in the real world.
I really don’t follow the anime scene too much, so it’s always surprising to see games like this which already have massive fan followings from the popularity of the original IP. Folks in our forums seem pretty excited to see this game released on the US App Store. So, if the words “Sword Art Online" mean anything to you, you should give this game a download. I’ve got it on my list of games to try this week, and I’m curious how the experience will be for someone who knows literally nothing about the IP short of what Wikipedia told me.
