Ben Brode Talks ‘Hearthstone’ Designer Insights, More Might Come in the Future

TouchArcade Rating:

One of the most frequent complaints against Hearthstone‘s (Free) developer team is the lack of communication with the game’s player base, which rightly or wrongly makes players feel ignored. Ben Brode, Hearthstone‘s Game Director, has been responsible for the majority of dev-player communication through his Designer Insight videos. Today, he took to reddit to provide more context on the production of those videos as well as talk future plans with the community. Brode makes those videos at night after his son goes to bed, and in order to do so, he first has to move his computer to avoid having his bed as the background, set up the studio lights, and then do several takes. Then he sends it to the rest of the team for feedback – which occasionally leads to more takes.

Part of the issue is that Blizzard doesn’t have a space appropriate for filming these types of videos, but the good news is the team is currently working on creating such a space. The plan is to make more videos in the future, and probably not just from Ben Brode, although he does note that showing your face in public comes with plenty of harassment from disgruntled players. Hopefully we’ll get more videos and more information about the team’s thoughts on the state of the game in the future; I know most players would welcome that.

Nice! As a pro drummer and musician for myself I can only admire that mix of music, art & game. Color me excited!

First album was When Dream and Day Unite. Images and Words was their second album.

One of the best double albums ever! I think there hasn't been one made this good since Pink Floyd's The Wall 👍

I've gotta disagree. The Astonishing is (mostly) pretty awful. I mean there's probably 20 or 30 good minutes of music hidden somewhere in that bloated mess, so maybe if it had been a 1-disc album instead of a double it may have been OK. As it is though, I think it's by far their worst album. :(
It pains me to say that too, since I'm a long-time fan (for about 25 years) that owns everything they've ever done, and has seen them live 10+ times, so this isn't coming from a hater.
