Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. With Halloween behind us, it seems like updates are a little slow this week. We’ll surely be buried under Thanksgiving and Christmas updates soon enough, but in the meantime, let’s take a moment to enjoy this calm. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social (Free), the watchlist in the TouchArcade App (Free), or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
MARVEL Avengers Academy, Free As with many other Marvel apps at the moment, Avengers Academy is running a Doctor Strange event. You can unlock some silly costumes, earn some new characters who will wander around doing almost nothing, and get some decorations you’ll probably immediately throw into storage. But hey, it’s Doctor Strange flavored! Most of the new additions are inspired by the movie, but one of the premium characters is Runaways alumni Nico Minoru, so that’s kind of cool. As usual, the dialogue is funny enough that it’s almost worth the suffering.
Leap Day, Free New levels and bug fixes. It’s odd how in the here and now, that seems like a quaint update, but twenty years ago, it would have seemed super exciting. This is where we’re at, friends. Escalation. Someone adds a free level pack, the next one adds two free level packs and a hat. The important thing is, Leap Day is really fun and there’s more of it now.
Candy Crush Saga, Free Yeah, we all know the business here by now. There’s a new episode in Candy Crush Saga, and it brings 15 new levels with it, bringing the total to roughly eleventy-gajillion. The update notes talk about a mystery, and they’ve hired some clown named Detective Dachshund to solve the case. I haven’t checked, but if he’s human, that’s just unfortunate. If he’s a dog, I assume he is an agent of Dave the Puppy and must be treated with as much hostility as we can muster. For freedom.
Soda Dungeon, Free It’s nice to see this nifty game still getting updates. The Lair of Despair has been added, and it’s available after you’ve reached level 150. It has 25 new mythic rare items for you to collect. There’s a new job class, The Shifter, joining the ranks, too. You can watch an ad to revive your party once per run, banner ads will automatically close when bosses speak so that they don’t obstruct the view, and a few other tweaks and additions have been made, as well.
World of Tanks Blitzâ„¢, Free Bless their hearts, the developers really tried hard to make this update sound awesome in the update notes. Here’s what you get: a reworked Mines level, a new player-created camo called Verdun Forest, and a new Valiant Effort reward system. How that works is that even if your team loses the battle, you might still get some extra credits and experience for putting up a good fight. Mmm, participation trophy.
Junk Jack, $4.99 Holy smokes. Okay, first of all? Coveted Update Mondays Most Spider-Mans of the Week award? Yes, you earned it. This update is unreal, adding so much stuff to the game that even trying to list it in summary form would be futile. The developers have moved the game to a new engine, improving the visuals, adding more treasures, monsters, slimes, weapons, trinkets… look, they added more everything, okay? The only downside is that the engine shift has made old saves and characters incompatible with this new version. If you have a particular attachment to what you’ve already built up in the game, you might want to pass on this update. Otherwise, choo-choo!
Subway Surfers, Free Hail to the chief, it’s the chief you should be hailing! So yes, there’s some sort of noisy political thing happening this week in the home of the brave, and surprisingly, relatively few developers have been cashing in on that with cheesy political updates. Subway Surfers appreciates a finely aged cheese, however, so the game is headed to Washington, D.C. this week. Surf an election-themed set of rails with Capitol Hill looming in the background, collect a new board that looks like a freaking eagle, and unlock a new character named Lauren, who the game describes as a “hip urbanite".
Demon's Rise, $7.99 The sequel to this lovely strategy RPG game is coming up later this week, so you might think the original game would be done with new content. But the nice thing about modern gaming is that if the developer has a will, there’s nothing stopping them from back-porting things from sequels into the original games, or adding in bridging content. Demon’s Rise gets a little of both in this update, with the world map feature from the upcoming sequel added in along with a new patrol map and some new magic items to give you something to do for the next few days. This update also includes some improvements, bug fixes, and balance tweaks. There’s also a new bug, unfortunately, but the developer is working hard on getting it ironed out quickly.
Doomsday Clicker, Free Doomsday Clicker got a couple of new features to keep you tapping. Not clicking. Why do we call them clickers on mobile anyway? We’re clearly not clicking anything. Okay, I’m losing focus here. Hummm. Doomsday Clicker! There’s a new Mega Monster event. Just look for the Mega Monster appearing in the background and tap that a- monster. Tap that monster. The other new feature is the Gold Stash. Special room perks come with free gold bars that you can store. You can smash the Stash whenever you want to, but the longer you wait, the richer the rewards. Enjoyment and a lesson in the merits of sensible investment? Why, PikPok, you sly dogs!
CSR Racing, Free You think you can stop the CSR Racing? Nothing can stop the CSR Racing. Not even the CSR Racing‘s offspring can stop the CSR Racing. The latest update to this long-running hit adds a few new cars to the mix. The Jaguar XJ220 and the Lamborghini Murcielago SV are up for grabs as season prizes, and the Subaru BRZ has its own event where you can get an exclusive decal. The new cars are rounded out with some crucial bux fixes and tweaks. Crucial. I mean it.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
