Umbrella, purveyors of some darn fine microgames, are about to release a torrent of games onto an unsuspecting public. They’re getting into publishing, though in a very hands-on role contributing art, design, and code for many titles, to go along with their self-developed titles. They have a quartet of games releasing soon, with the first one releasing on July 20th, entitled Colorpede. This high score chaser has you tapping to swap between two colors to match them on the way down, with the catch being that the colors change after each match. Good luck keeping up with that!
Stack Buddies will have you trying to drop items on a moving platform, trying to keep the stack from falling over, advancing to new levels and unlocking new characters to stack with. I’m a fan of this sort of gameplay, and this looks like a neat twist:
Cube Skip will mess with your head, as the game has you hopping downward, left to right, on various cubes. But here’s the trick – the controls are tap left to jump one cube, tap right to jump two cubes. So, the game keeps throwing directionality your way, but it’s irrelevant. Your brain will hurt after playing this one.
Finally, the most radical departure from Umbrella’s output so far is Go Go Fast, which has you swerving through traffic, completing missions in various vehicles. Or, playing as a goat and trying to ram people to stay alive, as you would expect. No release date announced for this one, but it’s coming soon according to Umbrella.
