It’s Monday of GDC, which means you’re going to hear a lot about games that are in the works in the future. But interestingly enough, this Monday is actually a notable release day for a few interesting indie games that have rolled out. Could be that they’re trying to draw attention before GDC rolls out, or developers are trying to stand out from the Thursday releases, though even those have started popping up at weirder times. Many of the notable games have magic as a key theme, so I’m dubbing this Magical Monday. Anyway, here’s a few of the interesting releases to check out today:

ChemCaper, $7.99 This RPG, set to be the first in a series of games, aims to combine a fantasy RPG world with edutainment, as the game incorporates elements of chemistry into its combat and world. It’s an interesting mix of things, particularly as I’d love to see game with education elements be fun on their own terms as a game. This certainly seems like a bold effort to do that.

7 Mages, Free Seven Samurai is obviously a classic, and ripe for adaptation. How about into a first-person RPG? That’s what Napoleon Games is doing here with 7 Mages. I suppose it’s not the most out there adaptation by far, but for fans of the underappreciated first-person RPG genre, this free download is worth checking out.

Paper Wizard, Free Chemistry and first-person RPGs? When can I just shoot stuff? That’s what Paper Wizard does, though it keeps up with the magical theme of the other games releasing today. The paper characters and enemies are a really cool look for this game, and the developers are chatting in the forum thread for the game if you have any feedback.

Onion Force, $0.99 This game looked like a really cool mixture of action games and tower defense, not skimping on the action at all. Frantic action games with redheaded fairies don’t come along every day. But they do on Magical Monday! Well, if you want to see if it lives up to the promise, you can check it out right now.
