Dutch studio Game Oven has been at work on one last game before they disband, and it’s out right now: Jelly Reef ($0.99), their roguelike-inspired ocean exploration game. You control the ocean, helping a school of jellyfish navigate the many hazards that want to devour and dstroy them. You swipe to control the ocean currents, and move the jellies from hexagonal level to hexagonal level based on the exit wall you make it to.
The game is based on a student project from the Game Oven particulars, and their Bojan Endrovski took lead design on the game instead of Adriaan de Jongh. So, that should explain why this is a lot more ‘normal’ than, say, Bounden ($2.99). It’s sad to see the studio presumably shut down and go their separate ways, but at least we get one more intriguing game from the studio to go out on. We previewed an earlier version at GDC if you want to see some more hands-on footage, albeit not of the final version you can buy now.
