GDC 2015: Uber-Stylish Transit Simulator ‘Mini Metro’ is Coming to iPad

TouchArcade Rating:

PC game Mini Metro is making its way to iOS, and after a hands-on demo of the game, there’s plenty of reason to be excited about this one. It is essentially a game about connecting transit lines in a number of levels loosely based off of real-world cities. New destinations keep popping up, and you must connect the limited number of train lines, with underwater tunnels and the like also in limited supply, in ideal order as new passengers and new locales start to pop up. Here’s a video of the iPad version in action:

The game is currently out on Steam Early Access, and the mobile version should be content identical to that game once it is completed. The two questions are whether the game will be free or paid, which developer Dinosaur Polo Club has yet to figure out at this time, and whether the game will come to iPhone. The size of the interface is a problem there, so if they can sort it out, an iPhone version may happen. The concept is really clever and the game looks just like city transit maps, so keep an eye out for this one later this year on iOS.

    2. shabutii

Both those trailers look awesome and another big name company with big name financing making games for iOS is a win in my book

The screen shot on the article.....I didn't see the second leg of the person at first. I was like WTF

i almost order amazon fire hdx last week till i saw on their web page that some of their games are available soon on ios. this is definitely a great news for us iOS gamers.

Lost Within looks amazing! So glad that they're smart enough to put their games out on iOS as well as their Fire.

If you can't beat them join them.

Remember Prey on iPhone? I loved "real" Prey, and bought it on iPhone for the sheer novelty!

    7. speedyph

      Wow 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

    8. MrThickDick

Why? Because they want to make money of course, that was a stupid question.

Anyone know how many Fire HDX's they have sold between the 7 and 8.9-inch versions? This move to making games for iOS makes me think they aren't doing well enough to justify the expense in Amazon Game Studios. I had the first 8.9 HDX but sold it rather quickly. Not a fan of their operating system and how clunky everything was.

      1. Themostunclean

I was thinking the same thing. Also, most people I know bought the Fire line of products as a far cheaper alternative to an iPad. So right off the bat you're pushing paid, premium experiences to people that are less likely to have or want to spend the money for them.

Anyone else think that Lost Within looks uncannily like Dark Meadow?

      1. Tallgeese

And the other one looks like Lili. But they both seem sickly in comparison. Here's hoping they're not!

Nah, I'd say they're just doing it for quick profit. Of course it'll hurt them in the long run, and they don't need to do it. They're basically saying, "Hey, if you keep buying Amazon games on your iOS device, and download that kindle app, maybe there's no reason to get one of our inferior tablets." And as far as your last sentence goes, I consider myself to be a vocal member of the "other segment." :-)

    12. pinta_vodki

The voice in the Lost Within trailer sounds like Frank Underwood.

    13. ElPumo

Amazon's first salvo in acquisition of Apple? More options are always a good thing.

    14. spokentruths772

Yeah this sounds cool or whatever but why leave google play out? With the new galaxy s6 the games run AMAZING there's no need for exclusives anymore that's just petty stop leaving android out its a great device and no I'm not a fanboy I have both iPhone and galaxy devices

    15. starkiller969

Nintendo needs to take some notes!

    16. yomachaser

Wouldn't it make more sense to switch their tablets to notmal android and become a general mobile game maker?

    17. Tyler Lundberg

Because only like 3 people have a fire phone are tablet?

    18. stolenlogic

      I would say for money.

    19. HungryBabyApps

Of course iOS has a better and bigger approach to a well build games market.
