GDC 2015: Disco Pixel’s ‘Jungle Rumble’ Set To Receive Updates

TouchArcade Rating:

Earlier today we sat down with Disco Pixel, makers of the rhythm title Jungle Rumble: Freedom, Happiness and Bananas ($3.99). Since its release in 2014, Jungle Rumble has seen enough success in various markets to warrant some significant updates, which were revealed to us at GDC.

The first significant update, scheduled to hit at the end of March, focuses on providing additional assistance to novice players. Specifically, the update will debut a revamped tutorial for beginners as well as additional side quests. The side quests will focus specifically on walking players through the more advanced strategies and mechanics that the game employs in later levels. The upcoming patch will also include new levels for players pining for additional content.

The second update, which has a tentative release of the end of April, will focus exclusively on additional levels. In fact, that update will launch new missions on a weekly basis. While weekly missions will cover a variety of difficulties and strategies, most will be on the harder side to provide hardcore players with additional difficulty.

Jungle Rumble: Freedom, Happiness and Bananas is currently available on the App Store so players interested can check it out now while they are waiting on the upcoming updates.

One of the keys and a potential deal killer for games and the watch in general is battery life...

im not sure how i feel about the Apple watch. i want one for sure but i dunno if i want to be an early adopter.

Im more interested in the next ipad models but i guess that wont be shown on this event.

      1. Endscrypt

Got to agree with that, I've learnt that if ya go with the first gen product, you'll regret it. Former IPad 1st gen, iPad mini 1st gen owner lol

Games will appear once the second-wave SDK is out, but watch gaming will be a novelty--the phone is better suited.

I have some ARG ideas for the watch, but actually building them is a low priority. I'll keep plugging away at iPhone games first.

    4. bababewey

      Added to my "watch" list

    5. profhuggybear

I could care less about the apple watch. It's going to be a huge hype and a big sales flop. Games on an apple watch seem ridiculous considering the increasing mobile screen sizes.

      1. libtroll

I don't think we'll be playing Battleheart Legacy on the iWatch but surely there will be exclusive games that cater to the screen's size. That'll be interesting to see.

        1. mindseyes

I think the interesting will be how the games interact with the watch not playing them on the watch. But maybe the notifications for the games you play or maybe eventually doing more from your watch like check into your favorite game with a tap why your at work without pulling out your phone to get your free daily prizes on certain games . The interaction of all the apple devices is what they really try to okay things on Microsoft tries but they do rush things a bit more like Samsung. Quality is worth the wait . I love android to just sometimes to much crap is to much crap simple can be better for daily lives .

          1. mindseyes

            Play not olay haha

      2. anabolicMike

It won't be a flop. People are already talking about it like crazy, it's a apple product, it won't flop. However! After the initial nerds get it and all the cool kids get it aren't people going to realize EVERYONE uses their phone as a watch now? I'm not buying something for that kinda dough that does pretty much the same thing as my phone and my phone is glued to me. Nice and all to have time on my wrist BUT your going to have to have a Bluetooth headset in all the time if you want to make phones calls (I'm assuming it's going to let you on a cell network with out needing to pair with your phone right? RIGHT? RRRRIIIGGGHHHTTT????). Can play games on it but not many, can it pair to your Apple TV? Use your watch to stream video to your TV? Cool idea but pointless. Yeah, I think they will sell tons at first and then everyone is going to notice it's pointless and then keep their phones in their pocket still. Everyone "NEEDS" a phone.... No one needs a watch

      3. OrangeJews

I remember people reacting the same way to the iPad way back then.

    6. dancj

One one hand I really can't see the point of the iWatch.

On the other hand I couldn't see the point to the iPad when it first came out and now I've come to realise that the iPad Air 2 is the loveliest device on Earth (closely followed by the iPhone 6).

    7. Sven Van de Perre

Yes, I'm expecting games. As Monkube will show one as soon as the event is over (based on the same Puzzle mechanic in BlastBall MAX, our newly released game which is in this week's 'Best New Games' list).

So be sure to visit the TA forum BlastBall MAX thread. Or (hopefully) a TA news post about the Apple Watch games coming in the next few months.

Also, while waiting for the Apple event to start, why not go and check the BlastBall MAX user reviews and decide wether or not to spend 3$ :-)

    8. AnEpicPotatoe

I anticipate flappy bird to make a resurgence as an iWatch game...

    9. Sven Van de Perre

I totally understand that most people don't see the Apple Watch as a gaming platform. But for one on one, 7 to 12 moves max versus games (bouncing back and forth between two watches) it could be very fun. Think speed-chess, minimalistic enough to take no more than 5 to 10 seconds of your time (per turn)

    10. Goggles789

I would have been excited for this product but the price is pretty inflated, for a guy like me.

    11. Sven Van de Perre

There. Sent the info of Monkube's Apple Watch game to tips at toucharcade. Hoping to evade the tidal wave of Apple Watch game press-releases coming in a few hours.

    12. Devok

Just waiting for the iwatch to have same specs as the iPhone's, until then people won't even need a iphone. Just don't know why Apple won't make the iwatch that makes calls with its own SIM card.

I can already imagine watch phones are going to kill the mobile phone era.

      1. Big Papa

Are you delusional? Other than you, who in the hell would trade their iPhone 6 or 6+ for a watch that makes calls? What idiot would actually give up the battery life of the larger devices and the ability to, gee, I don't know, actually be useful! Yah, brilliant idea you have there. You let me know how surfing webpages, composing emails, and managing your investment portfolio works out on a 1.5 inch screen.

    13. bigrand1

Nah, I'm not gonna be an early adopter of this one. Will wait and watch (oops) how it goes and if it looks like it has possibilities, might pick up the 2nd or 3rd generation. What content is it gonna present? How long's the battery life? How much storage will it have? Will the speaker be any good? Retina? I have other questions too which may or may not be a deal-breaker for me. I'm actually more interested in that bracelet device that makes a computer screen on your wrist TBH. With this watch idea, technology is moving so fast by the time you buy one, the you'll wish you bought the next one.

    14. Quazonk

I'll never, ever be caught wearing one of these things.

      1. Eli Hodapp

        Thanks for commenting!

        1. mindseyes

Lol just why comment unless being positive or pointing out some negatives . You can have strong opinions and still be nice . I don't like watches but I believe more will like the interaction that can't have there phones out at work . Read a text with the boss right there easy with watch lol no more fake bathroom breaks !!

    15. Alexythimia23

Is the apple watch just like wearing a nano on your wrist? Lol i personally love the look of it when i saw the demo, this will take off its apple for gods sake lol there are so many possibilities to this, it can totally be a second screen to a game on your iphone/ipad, i have thought of many cools things id like to see in gaming with the watch, too many to mention. But im sure devs are way ahead of me and already thought about every angle. I think we got a few surprises in store with this one and i hope it is successful.

    16. Montanx HS

Apple watch is one of those things where people will pretend to be excited but then say "I have an iphone, wtf do i need a watch for?" Its just a smaller inconvenient iphone, complete waste of money.

      1. Morgan01

The Apple watch is essentially a peripheral device. It is not a separate, independent device, but is reliant on and used in conjunction with your iPhone. The supposedly big draw is that you don't need to pull out your phone since the watch connects to it and is conveniently locate on your wrist. Pretty big price tag for a small display with limited functionality that connect to your phone. Why not just pull out your phone? Bigger screen....more capabilities...ridiculous number of apps....
