Sid Meier’s name should be familiar to anyone who’s a fan of simulation/strategy/4X games, as he’s the creator of the Civilization series, which most recently came to mobile with Civilization Revolution 2 ($4.99). and his latest title with his studio Firaxis is coming soon to mobile: Sid Meier’s Starships. The 2K-published game will be a turn-based game, wherein you command a fleet of starships, trying to explore the galaxy and deal with alien races. Combat, technology development, and a number of missions with unique maps are promised in this one.
The game is launching on multiple platforms, with an iPad version coming along with PC and Mac versions. There may be some kind of cross-platform connectivity, which would be really interesting to see for a potentially-expansive game such as this. While a smaller team at Firaxis helped make the game, Sid Meier doesn’t really make small games, so this could prove to be a game to keep an eye on. It’s promised early in 2015, though no specific release date has been locked down quite yet. While we’d love to see a full-scale Sid Meier game on mobile, his smaller projects like Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol (Free) have been worthy efforts in their own right.
