Neutronized knows how to make rad pixel art games, as evidenced by Lost Yeti ($2.99) and Roar Rampage ($0.99) in their iOS catalog. They teased their third game, Drop Wizard, a couple months ago, claiming that it would release in January. Well, where many promised game release dates tend to slip into the future, Neutronized is going to deliver on their January promise: Drop Wizard releases this Thursday, January 8th, on the App Store.
The game is a love letter to 16-bit arcade games like Bubble Bobble, where you control a wizard who has to defeat all the enemies in a level. The only way to do so is by dropping from one level to another, which shoots out a star which can stun enemies, who can then be knocked into others, even creating chain reactions. It’s simply controlled by left and right inputs with auto-running, but there’s a depth to the timing and dropping through the bottom of the screen back up to the top. The game’s price has yet to be confirmed, but it will be a premium game with no IAP. With January 1st being a very slow day for new releases, this pretty much automatically becomes the first game of 2015 to anticipate.
