‘XCOM: Enemy Within’ Hits the App Store Tonight

2K’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown ($9.99) came out on mobile last year, and brought the reimagining of the classic turn-based strategy to iOS fully intact. Well, almost: last year’s expansion XCOM: Enemy Within was not yet available. That’s changing, as the expansion is rolling out as a standalone app on Thursday. The game will be available for $12.99, and should be rolling out around the world a few hours after everything else comes out tonight, according to IGN – it should be in the New Zealand App Store right now, but we haven’t quite found it yet. But it should be available at least by tomorrow. We don’t know if it supports save transferring from Enemy Unknown quite yet though.

The game is developed by Firaxis, and boasts new several dozen new maps, new units with new abilities and equipment for the previous unit types. There’s a variety of new enemies to take on, and a new resource called Meld to collect. People who got their money’s worth out of Enemy Unknown will likely be chomping at the bit for this new content, particularly as it’s now mobile for the first time. It’ll be interesting to see how this works as a standalone version where this was DLC for the base version on PC and consoles, as well, but we’ll find out soon enough.
