Maybe it’s just everyone dumping ice water on their heads to promote charity, but Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage ($0.99) going on sale seems awfully appropriate. And not only is it going on sale, it’s completely free for a limited time as Apple’s “App of the Week", likely in connection to developer Nitrome’s latest game 8bit Doves ($2.99) recently releasing.
The rope-slashing, ice-breaking physics puzzler originally released under the Rovio Stars label, but has since transferred back to Nitrome and is now on the App Store under their label. Oh, and the Rovio site makes literally no mention of the game at all. Hmm.
Both the iPhone-only and universal versions are available for free, though there is IAP in the game. The reason for split versions is likely because of Rovio policy before they decided to start making universal apps instead of split versions. I’d probably recommend the universal version for obvious reasons. This is one of the better physics puzzlers of recent vintage, and has a fantastic high-res pixel art style that’s actually kind of hard to notice unless you really look at it. This is well worth checking out at the free price if you haven’t yet.

Very nice write-up Carter. I'm very much impressed with the precision controls as they are implemented. This game is just about as good as they come on mobile.
Best mobile game series in my opinion. They just play so perfectly! Where can I buy the merch ;)
Two Dollars?! Do they think I've got a jar full of coins just sitting around?! ..Oh, wait...
Two bucks seems so damn cheap for this game. I'm slightly disappointed that there isn't any arbitrary IAP.
great indie trilogy! keep up the good job Mike!
I really liked this one when I played the testflight. Very simple but very expressive controls.
I particularly enjoy the different backgrounds and themes. Great art and music.
Controls are pitch perfect for mobile.
Happy to have bought it, even if I didn't finished Mikey Hooks yet :)
PS: I'm neither Mike, nor Mike's mom ;)
Not enough buttons
I like the minimal buttons as it means I can concentrate on achieving even greater speed. Really love this game, well done to the 2 Mikes!
;)
I wish I didn't hate the art style of this series so much.
If you "hate" it why waste your time spreading your negativity here?
He's entitled to have an opinion, and to voice that opinion.
I'm sure I'm not the only one, and if more people expressed their distaste for it, perhaps they will put a little more effort into it on the next go round. Or maybe they will come out with another series with similar gameplay but a different visual style and characters altogether.
I didn't say I hate the game, or that it was even bad. To expand, "I wish I didn't hate the art style" so that I would be able to play a game which to all accounts has everything else going for it, and I hope that in the future it improves in this regard. Currently, it looks like it's meant to appeal to very young children. And if the gameplay is NOT meant for little kids then the look of the game is misleading. Which is ok, maybe the point is to attract a wider audience, but it does not appeal to ME. And since this is a site that has as one of it's main features, GAME REVIEWS, I feel justified in expressing that.
I myself am an artist and I know that as a creator of things you don't want everyone to just complement your stuff all the time. Frankly, when you're looking for honest opinions, its rather annoying if everyone just gushes about how fabulous you are. Criticism helps you grow by identifying where your weaknesses are...something that is often impossible to do first hand.
Agreed.
Hey Carter, the 10000000 hat is still in this game! Which is great, because it's the secret ingredient to making Mikey look like Heisenberg.
thanks for this :)

Is this the last of the Mikey games? A collectors item?
