‘Hearthstone’ Expansion “Curse of Naxxramas” Launches Today, But Not Directly After Maintenance

TouchArcade Rating:

As Hearthstone (Free) fanatics everywhere desperately look for any kind of tea leaves to read to divine the exact time of day the new Curse of Naxxramas expansion is going to hit, Blizzard has shed some light on when it’s not going to hit. The game has been undergoing maintenance this morning, starting at midnight Pacific and ending pretty soon (or scheduled to end, anyway) at 8:00 AM Pacific.

I would’ve put more than a few dollars on betting that when the game came back up, the Arachnid Quarter of Curse of Naxxramas would be unlocked, but according to a post on the battle.net forums, this won’t be the case:

Just wanted to clarify that this maintenance is not for the Curse of Naxxramas Adventure. We will be turning on Curse of Naxxramas for all regions at the same time some time after this maintenance is complete, but please do not expect Naxxramas to be available immediately following this maintenance.

Having watched Telltale try to coordinate multi-platform releases with their games, I don’t envy Blizzard here. So many people are so excited for this release, and if for some weird reason the iOS update doesn’t hit today or a million other possible things happen to delay the opening of Naxx, there’s going to be a lot of people pissed off.

But, hey, on the up side, the first taste of the expansion is going to be free for anyone who plays during the launch event. If you’re without an iPad and waiting for the game to hit the iPhone, you should download the Mac/PC game and create an account just to have your account flagged as having participated in the launch event. That’ll save you five bucks towards getting the rest of the Curse of Naxxramas. Just make sure to complete the tutorial and actually do whatever you need to do to have “entered" Naxxramas to be sure you get credit.

I've been patiently waiting for this moment when it goes universal. Instantly bought.

        Same here! So excited!

Oh, cool. I have no excuse now...except that my backlog is now even bigger. It's rather large. And I mean LARGE.

      1. MajorCheevo

I know that feeling all to well. Even have to manage space because of the back log.

I've been doing that for years. Currently have 800 games that I've downloaded since I bought my first iPhone 3G. It never gets easier deleting your babies, especially the ones you barely got time to play. The only thing you can do is hope for a larger hard drive one day and if not then know they're in a better place...deep in your purchased list.

I feel like I need to be on the Hoarders show. I have more games then I could even have time to play. I'm deleting games I haven't even played yet, just to get the next week's crop of games to fit. Now I'm starting to hoard idevices. I have 3 iPhones, 4 iPods, and 2 iPads all completely full of just games and there's no sign of stopping. It's a sickness I tell you!

Glad I'm not the only one ...

Large is always good. Don't complain.

FYI, the PS3/Vita version was free for a while if you had Playstation Plus...but yes, I believe this is the lowest price in actual money I've ever seen this. Worth every penny at full price, too! Already own for the previously mentioned platforms, but picking it up for my iPhone/iPad as well!

It's also had a 0.99$ sale on vita a couple of weeks ago, I got it then, even though I had it on PC from humble Indie Bundle, but as the comments above state my backlog is also rather LARGE that I still never played it :-(

I grabbed the PS3 version for free via PS+. I played for about 20 minutes and loved it but I'm going to buy it for iPhone because I don't see myself playing this game on my tv/console when I have full blown PS3/PS4 games. I think this game would be well suited for iPhone.

It's excellent on the Vita. Portable and actual D-pad! Not talking down the iPhone/iPad version since I can't get it till get home from work, but I spent more time playing the Vita version than the PS3 side. Brilliant game no matter the platform.

Awesome! Can't wait to try it on my Vita!

Downloading now! Excited to finally play it.

I'm glad so many people enjoy something. I got it for free, played it for ten minutes, deleted it. Just wasn't fun.
