Wednesday morning: Arguably the best time to be an iOS gamer thanks to the wonderful sneak peeks that New Zealand and other Asian Pacific iTunes regions gives us. We don’t have a lot on our radar this week, but the games that are coming out are pretty big name titles that we’ve been anticipating for quite some time.
- Nakama – (by Crescent Moon Games) [Universal]
- The Cave – (by SEGA) [Universal]
- Transport Tycoon – (by 31x Limited) [Universal]
- Lead the brave – (by Hiromu Kato)
- Spin Hero – (by Crazy Bit) [Universal]
- NASCAR: Redline – (by Eutechnyx Limited) [Universal]
We’ll update this list as more games pop up before the 11:00 PM Eastern US release time as this seems oddly… sparse.
I second the nomination for Mike Meade as TA's CFO! :-)
Agreed!
I'd soooo be down with that!
It's upsetting to hear about these timers built into otherwise quality games. I think it shows a lack of creativity and design when all they can do to properly profit off these games is to implement timers. Timers are the cheapest way of monetizing a game.
Traditionally, if you went to the lead designer of a game in development and told him you wanted to implement something that kept the player from playing for a period of time, they would probably go bonkers on you. It isn't any different now, they just know a percentage of people will enjoy it enough and have money in the bank that will give them the profits they need.
But when is it all gonna catch up to them? This sort of monetizing has to damage the reputation of EA or other large publishers who use timers. Perhaps it will never catch up. This whole model could just continue to thrive. Which in that case, it could only help the indie developers who don't need to do that sort of thing to profit. Regardless of the success EA may have, I'm sure there are tons of people who are starved for a game at a one time price.
I saw Brad in the Planetary Annihilation beta last weekend. He is still missed.
GREAT PODCAST U GUYS CONGRATS ELI!!!😃😃😃😃😃
I still miss brad . He was awesome
What happened to Brad?
I see the focus on game design and production takes time and patience to achieve higher profits. Do not think things can go bad changes. Then will be fine
I'm really liking the longer podcasts, an hour is just to short.
I'm sure it's been long enough without Brad that he needs to make a special appearance, I miss his enthusiasm and energy.
lol. he was a good opening announcer for the podcast.
just wanna say I'm loving the podcast! it'd be nice to get a shorter one added during the week, perhaps covering a few bits of apple news, or rumors. I'd also like to listen about jailbreak news, but that wouldn't pertain much to games...
I'd *love* to delete Marvel Puzzle Quest and play the original PQ. If only the HD port for the ipad was available...
Congrats to Eli on the CEO appointment! I have a feeling it was Brad's doing, he probably phoned up Arn and flexed so hard his pecs came out of Arn's phone so he left him with no other choice.
Mike's recall of boner characters was hysterical. The first time it was mentioned I heard him laugh and just KNEW he was gonna say something at some point lol.. Great Podcast and congrats Eli!
Didn't listen to it yet - so I don't know if my question is already answered - where is episode 124??!
