TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’

TouchArcade Rating:

Assassin’s Creed is no stranger to the mobile platform, and in fact I was a huge fanboy of the 2016 released Assassin’s Creed Identity which took the series formula and reworked it into a more bite-sized and replayable form that worked super well on the go. As much as I enjoyed that game though, it was still a “mobile-ized" version of a major AAA franchise on consoles and PC, and while it might have been ok to scratch the Assassin’s Creed itch here and there it wasn’t a replacement for a real-deal full-fledged Assassin’s Creed game. So it is with much excitement that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a real-deal full-fledged Assassin’s Creed game that launched on console and PC just this past fall, is now available in all its glory on iOS devices.

Well, some iOS devices. You’re going to need to be rocking an iPhone 15 Pro or its Max variant to play this bad boy on iPhone, and over on the iPad side of things you’ll need an M1 chip or higher device. This really is the big pants version of the game with seemingly very little compromise running on tiny little handheld computer devices. It’s remarkable. We’re finally at a point where we don’t have to settle for a “mobile-ized" version of a beloved series, and can instead simply enjoy the same experience on our mobile devices that we’d have on our TVs or monitors. What a time to be alive. This trailer is from the console/PC version but it should give you an idea of what the game is like.

I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty of what exactly Assassin’s Creed Mirage is as there are no shortage of reviews out there from the console and PC release last year, and as to how it performs on the iOS devices capable of running them our pal MrMacRight on Youtube has done an in-depth analysis of that already. Plus, the game is free to download and try with a full game unlock IAP so really the best thing to do if you have a device capable of running the game is to simply download it and try it yourself. You’ll need to make sure you have some device space freed up since it’s a biggie, but it’s really the best way to see if you like the game.

What I will say however is that I am absolutely here for games like this being released on iOS. Just from the opening moments of Assassin’s Creed Mirage where you’re parkouring your way across rooftops in an open and effortless fashion, it’s hard not to have a big grin on your face knowing this is running on a little iOS device. Sure the visuals are dumbed down a tad but it’s not really noticeable on such a small, high resolution screen anyway. For SO LONG we’ve been banging the drum that iOS devices are powerful enough to hang with other platforms, and it feels like in the past year we’re finally starting to see that be the reality. So do yourself a favor and check out the free portion of Assassin’s Creed Mirage on an iOS device, and if you’re digging it then be sure to grab the full game unlock before June 20th while it’s on sale for half off.
