Valve just pushed out its first update for the Steam Link (Free) mobile app in over half a year. While the app itself has seen many updates since launch adding full keyboard and mouse gameplay, rumble for controllers, and PS5 DualSense and Xbox Series X controller support, today’s update brings in 1080p and 4K streaming support as a high quality configuration option. In addition to that, the update mentions sensor fusion support for the Backbone One controller on both iOS and Android. I couldn’t get motion or gyro to work on my phone, but I assume sensor fusion is about that.
I don’t have any game that would be using motion controls on my MacBook Air right now, and my Steam Deck didn’t let me use gyro through Steam Link, so I’m not sure what this feature will do. If you do get it to work, let us know in the comments below. If you’ve not tried Steam Link yet, you can download the app on iOS here and on Android here. Here’s my new controller buying guide covering the PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X controllers and whether you should upgrade to a better controller to play on iPad or iPhone. Have you used Steam Link recently and what controller do you use when you stream games on iOS or iPadOS?
