Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s been a bumper few weeks for Spider-Mans, but I think the amount of Spider-Mans is now normalizing again. Nevertheless, I’ve been able to pick myself up and find some fresh updates to entertain you today. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free As usual for a Marvel Strike Force update, this one loads up a bunch of content that will be trickled out over the course of the next several weeks. There’s a new original character in the form of Vahl, and several familiar characters will be joining up soon as well. Super Skrull, Sylvie, Beta Ray Bill, Loki (Teen), and Spider-Man (Big Time) are the new characters, and you can add in a spiffy new Astonishing X-Men costume for Cyclops to freshen him up as well. Lots of new missions and events, some UI improvements, and a bevy of bug fixes. Seems like a good one.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Okay, sure, there’s a whole Inside Out thing going on over in Disney Magic Kingdoms, but that was a couple of weeks ago so I’m going with the newer Disney game update. And that would be this one! It adds a new playable character, as updates to this game generally do. He’s no hero, however. Make way for NegaDuck from Darkwing Duck! Look, if I had to choose between him and DW in a straight-up fight, I know who I would pick. There are also some bug fixes and improvements in here, as usual.
AFK Arena, Free Sure, let’s have a look and see how AFK Arena is doing. We’ve got a new Wilder hero named Trishea – The Astral Oracle. There’s all the usual business that comes with a new hero, naturally. There are also several new adventures to embark upon, a new campaign chapter, and a few tweaks made for balancing purposes. This game is constantly updating but the basic shape of those updates doesn’t change a whole lot each time, even if the content it represents is entirely new. Kind of an impressive pace, especially for how long it’s been running.
Subway Surfers, Free Instead of heading to another real-world city this time around, the Subway Surfers kids are going to Fantasy Fest. There they’ll meet new character Alfie and his Big Boss Board. Trym gets some new duds in the form of the Noble Newbie Outfit, and you can hit up some events in previously-visited cities. A new feature has been added that allows you to capture, create, and share your own Subway Surfers stories. Is that something people do? I guess it will be now.
Need for Speed No Limits, Free Hm, this update is a little older than I thought it was. Sadly, my delete key was eaten by a roving buffalo so I can only keep moving forward. This latest version adds the Koenigsegg Gemera and the 2022 McLaren GT to the game, as far as new cars go. There are also some new wraps designed by mixed-media artist Vandal that you can earn by playing missions. The new cars are available via events, and I do apologize if one or both have finished up now. Really, if that buffalo hadn’t chowed down on my delete key I would have just replaced this with something else. Can’t do much about that, though.
SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit, Okay, this one is fresher, I promise. We’ve got a new playable character again in this latest update, and it’s Mr. Krabs! That’s cool. You’d think he would have been here earlier, but sometimes people get held up, even by buffalo-related keyboard incidents. Also in this update is a new Tale of the Deep, with SpongeBob and friends heading on a holiday trip that goes all wrong. As things tend to when SpongeBob is involved.
WHAT THE CAR?, Having lived in Japan for more than fifteen years at this point, I can comfortably say I have no idea who Amy Sedaris is. Apparently she is a comedian, and she must be pretty good because she now has her own level in What the Car?. She put all of her favorite things in it, like cheese balls, scissors, rabbits, and more. Alright, that’s cool. Something tells me that whether you’re a fan of Amy Sedaris or not, you can find some fun in her new level.
Zookeeper World, I think we’re getting near the end of the list and I haven’t given out a certain coveted award yet. I’m not sure this one quite deserves it, though. It has twelve new stages to play, which is nice. It also adds a new One Move rule to the multi-puzzle event. It just doesn’t seem worthy of the prize, even during a week where I’m just going to give it out arbitrarily since there isn’t anything jumping out at me in any real way. Let’s see how the next game fares.
Summon Quest, No, it’s now or never. Without even looking, I’m going to give this game the coveted UMMSotW award for the week. The alternative is too frightening to bear. There’s a new summon here in the form of Nefara, which is a perfectly decent name for a summon. Oh, and a new region! It’s a Graveyard. Sounds like an awfully interesting place to have a quest that involves summons, wouldn’t you say? There are also some UI tweaks, storage optimizations, and some tweaks to the combat. Excellent. I suppose things worked out fine after all.
Toon Blast, Free Let’s wrap things up with our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. Toon Blast. Look, I have to pull it in now and then. It’s in the union contract. You get your usual fifty new levels to play, and this time they’re wrapped up in an episode called Western Gang. Probably the cowboy thing, not the “stay off the west side!" thing. But who can say for sure? Only people who play this game, I suppose. Maybe that is you. If so, let us know in the comments what kind of Western Gang it is.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
