Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. We’re still mopping up the Lunar New Year updates, it seems. But Valentine’s Day is also right around the corner, so there will be a bit of that as well. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
WHAT THE GOLF?, Oh, what the?! What the golf?! I really like the title of this game. It’s just fun. Like you’ve stumbled across some sort of bizarre situation involving golf and you can’t help but exclaim WHAT THE GOLF? Right, update. We have an update to talk about. There is a new Daily Course mode. How about that? Along with that are a bunch of new level packs, some prizes to collect, and some new leaderboards and achievements to go with the new content. Also little tweaks and improvements, likely carried out by code elves and/or code goblins.
Jetpack Joyride, Free And here’s the start of the Lunar New Year update festival. Jetpack Joyride has done Lunar New Year updates before, so this is mostly a rerun, albeit with some new stuff to get. Collect Red Envelopes to get your hands on some goodies, including the new Blue Tiger Costume, the Mandarin Jetpack, and the Tiger Chopper. Even if you’re not really into the holiday itself, it can’t hurt to have more tiger-themed goodies, right? You don’t have to answer that. I can’t hear you. Or can I? Ha ha. No, I can’t.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free Gosh, remember that Chrono Cross collaboration? I wonder what was up with that? Little late for a rerelease tease to be an April Fool’s joke, or perhaps a little early? Oh well, let’s focus on the now. There’s a new ally named Eva available, and that means there’s a new Fateful Encounter to go with her. This update also brings in a re-encounter with Melissa, plus a Fateful Encounter 3rd Anniversary that you can run two times. Finally, Suzette (Dragoon) has been added to to the new event Manifestation: True Weapon Discovery.
CHARRUA SOCCER, There are enough games on Apple Arcade by now that there are more than a few games that I can honestly say I’ve forgotten about entirely, and Charrua Soccer is one of them. This game is celebrating its second anniversary, which makes me feel extra-bad for not remembering it. I am a true fiend, to be sure. Apparently this year’s party sees the return of things from last year’s party, plus some Valentine’s Day festivities for good measure. Lots of goodies to collect, apparently. Well, that’s a nice way to mark the years.
Fruit Ninja Classic+, More Lunar New Year stuff, this time for the Apple Arcade + version of Fruit Ninja. I don’t think this update hit the regular version, but don’t quote me on that. Anyway, the new stuff here amounts to a Tiger Blade. It makes your swishes and swipes that much more tiger-ish, I suppose. If you want to add an extra bit of fun while using it, shout IT’S GRRRR-REAT after every slice. Your friends, family, and loved ones will think it’s fantastic, I’m sure.
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free One Marvel game may be on its way out, but don’t worry! There are still a billion others. Like this one! The latest version has some kerfuffle with the Young Avengers and the Dark Hunters. There will be four new playable characters added as part of this event: Kate Bishop, Echo, Morbius, and Doctor Voodoo. Cool, I like some of those characters. Several other characters are getting improvements, and there are new costumes for Jubilee, Bishop, and Killmonger. There are a few other additions plus a bevy of bug fixes to boot. Oh, and just to tie in with today’s theme, Jubilee’s new suit is Year of the Tiger-flavored.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Yes, that’s right. Two Marvel games. I could have included Toon Blast, but I didn’t. I wanted to put both of these in, and that’s just what I’ve done. This update brings in a new World Boss in the form of Infinity Ultron, plus some new Infinity Watch-style uniforms for Adam Warlock, Drax, and Gamora. Adam Warlock gets his Tier-3 form, and Gamora and Drax both get Potential Transcended. I love that Drax uniform, by the way. It’s a nice reminder of what the character in the comics used to look like before he became Kratos 2.0. Not that I dislike the current design, mind you. He just used to be a lot dorkier, and I like stupid things.
Fire Emblem Heroes, Free Five years? Holy potatoes, time flies. I do wonder how long this game will go on, but I imagine it will still be a while longer. It could probably use a new game release to mine for characters though, eh? Perhaps Nintendo will provide soon. Anyway, there are a number of events in this latest version to celebrate the anniversary, plus a new event type called Summoner Duels S set to kick off soon. There are also some new skills available for Legendary Hero Hrid and Mythic Hero Eir. I don’t see anything else that is catching my eye today, so I guess I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week as a birthday present.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free I always look forward to these updates just to see what deep pulls the new playable characters are, but this latest version doesn’t dig very deep at all. We’ve only got one new character this time, and it’s none other than Pete. Yes, that Pete. The thorn in Mickey’s side, Goofy’s frenemy neighbor, and the ever-present lackey for Malificent in the Kingdom Hearts games. Presumably this particular Pete is the standard one. This update also has a stat refresh for Baloo, plus some of the usual bug fixes and tweaks.
Subway Surfers, Free We’ll finish up with a look at Subway Surfers, which is also doing a Lunar New Year update. Surf the festive streets and scoop up tokens to unlock sweet rewards. Add the new surfer Tiger to your team and see if you can get your hands on the Lunar Tiger board. Mala has a new Lunar Outfit to mark the occasion as well. Tiger looks pretty fierce, I wonder how tough he is to get? Probably extremely tough. Too cool to be easy. Extreme sadness.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
