Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. An interesting mix this week, with some Halloween updates, some anniversary updates, and some updates that have nothing to do with either of those things. I’ve grabbed a bunch of them for you to mull over. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Jetpack Joyride, Free I think it was just last week that I remarked how odd it was that Dan the Man was celebrating the tenth anniversary of Jetpack Joyride while the game itself was doing a Fruit Ninja event. Well, I look like a right goof now. Jetpack Joyride is now celebrating its tenth anniversary with a fresh new event. Jump into the game now and do your best to get a Party Barry Costume, an Apple Soda Jetpack (don’t drink and fly, kids), and a Cake Mech. Now that is some delicious destruction.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Looks like some of the Marvel heroes are getting in on the Halloween season. I mean, they normally wear costumes, so I guess all they can do is embrace the glitzy gold of the Phoenix Force. New Phoenix Force-related uniforms for Captain America, Wolverine, and Hyperion are now available. Hyperion also gets his Tier-3 version added to the game, along with some new artifacts and Timeline Survival Threat Levels. Not a big fan of the whole Phoenix Force thing, but if you are then this is probably pretty cool.
Toon Blast, Free It’s the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for this week! Are you excited? It’s Toon Blast! And it has fifty new levels for you to play, should you desire to. The story this time is called Hyper Bikers, and we aren’t given any other details in the update notes. How mysterious. You’ll have to play the game if you want to find out more, and that may be the scariest thing in this week’s column.
Subway Surfers, Free The Subway Surfers kids are making another stop on their never-ending world tour and trying to check the Halloween event off the list at the same time. They’ve headed to Mexico this time, where you can meet a new fan-made surfer named Bob the Blob. Everything is decked out for the spooky season, and Olivia gets a new Derby Macabre outfit. There’s also a new board in the form of the Torito board. You more or less know what you’re getting from this game by now, so if you want to get what it’s giving, go ahead and get with it.
SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit, Ready for a bit of extra challenge? The latest version of SpongeBob Patty Pursuit has twenty new bite-sized levels designed to test your skills a little harder than the usual stuff. There are some cool rewards for those who can pull them off. Keep your eyes peeled for some references in those levels, naturally. You won’t just be handed the levels, mind you. You’ll need to earn stars to unlock them. This update also brings in some new hats, tweaks the game balance, and fixes some icky bugs.
Mini Motorways, This update is called the Hometown update. Compelling. Let’s see why. Ah, I see. It adds a new map based on the capital city of New Zealand/Aotearoa, where developer Dinosaur Polo Club is from. Aside from the new map, you also get autosaves at the end of every week. There are also a bunch of bug fixes, because if you’re inviting friends over it’s a good idea to clean up, right? Right.
Temple Run 2, Free Ah, here we go. This is the real Halloween stuff. The new Haunted Harvest map offers you some season-appropriate spooky scares as you run like heck. There are two new characters and three new pets, plus some new Artifact sets and Hats. Toss in the usual bug fixes and performance improvements, and you’ve got a nice little Halloween treat to enjoy. Just watch for any nasty tricks, eh?
Crossy Road Castle, Crossy Road Castle isn’t the only Crossy Road on Apple Arcade anymore, so it has to step its game up if it wants to keep getting love from players. The Candy Cafe Tower is its answer this time. It brings new levels, new challenges, new characters, and of course plenty of hats and secrets to discover. Sure, that will do for now.
Doodle God Universe, It seems there are some things about in Doodle God Universe, perhaps involving dragons. A princess has been kidnapped, which happens shockingly frequently in the world of video games. You need to build a team to find the dragon and defeat it. That means new elements and new traps, among many other goodies. Seems like a beefy new chunk of content, so if Doodle God is your thing you might as well give it a go.
Monument Valley 2, $3.99 I sure didn’t expect to see any new content added to Monument Valley 2 at this point, but that’s just what we got. As part of Playing for the Planet’s Green Game Jam, the developers have added a special chapter called The Lost Forest. It’s short and sweet, with four little scenes, but I’ll take whatever the developers feel like adding. This monumental update earns Monument Valley 2 the coveted UMMSotW for this week’s feature.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
