Over the years, Beamdog slowly brought multiple classic CRPGs to iOS and Android including both phones and tablets. These include Baldur’s Gate ($9.99), Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn ($9.99), and Icewind Dale ($9.99) Enhanced Editions. Today, Beamdog pushed out massive updates to all three games on PC platforms in the form of version 2.6. The 2.6 update upgraded the games for 64-bit, added new portraits, voice sets, and more. One little bit of information hidden in the known issues for all three games is that crossplay across PC and mobile isn’t available until the 2.6 update arrives on iOS and Android.
As of now, a release window for the mobile updates hasn’t been announced but I hope to see them soon. In addition to game-specific updates detailed here, this update adds 11 new character portraits to all games alongside 7 new voice sets including voices from Mark Meer, Baeloth Barrityl, and even Trent Oster (Beamdog’s CEO). Beamdog also says this update for all three games will not fix every single issue but the team is continuing to work on the games. Following the iOS and Android versions, Beamdog brought these games to consoles including Nintendo Switch. Have you played these games on mobile yet or will you consider jumping in once the crossplay update arrives on iOS and Android?
