Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Marvel Contest of Champions’, ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’, ‘AFK Arena’, ‘Hidden My Game By Mom’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It was a really quiet week for cool updates, but I’ve done what I could to find an assortment to present to you. While I briefly considered skipping this week, in the end I think I found some decent stuff to highlight. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Some Marvel games got updates this week, and we’ll start by taking a look at Contest of Champions. The new X-Men: Prodigal Son event has started, centering around Cable and Jubilee’s quest to find out who attacked Krakoa. Jubilee will be joining the playable line-up, along with one other nefarious fellow. Aside from the new content, a new undo button feature has been added that allows you to take back moves in Quests. There are also new Season Tags that will be used to group specific Champions together for special events. Some balance adjustments and bug fixes round things out.

MARVEL Future Fight, Free Thanks to what I expect were a lot of altered plans due to shifting movie schedules, Marvel Future Fight‘s events last year were largely focused on older comic book events. The latest update is another comic event, but it’s a slightly newer one in that it’s from just last year. Thor has become the Herald of Thunder, and things probably aren’t going to go smoothly for anyone involved. New uniforms are included for Thor, Loki, and Valkyrie, and Tier-3 Loki is now available. Valkyrie, Heimdall, and Sif get their Potential Awakened or Transcended forms, and some new story chapters have been added to the game.

Toy Blast, Free Here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for this week. Yes, it’s another Blast game. No one else updated, so what can you do? As usual, you get 50 new levels and a description in the update notes that probably doesn’t have anything to do with the game itself. Some business about rainy days and splashing around in the puddles or something like that. Surely it is raining somewhere right now, though it feels more like most people I know are either freezing or scorching in the heat. Imaginary rain perhaps might make you feel better?

Subway Surfers, Free It is the year 2021, and Earth is no longer safe for various reasons. It makes sense, then, that the Subway Surfers kids have abandoned this failed experiment and taken to space in the latest update. On the Space Station, you can collect tokens to earn cool prizes. There are two new skaters, a robot named Spacebot and what I think is an alien named Frankette. Three new boards have been added: Discovery, Secret Society, and Endeavour. Check out this update, it’s… *squints to read cue cards*… out of this world. Sigh.

LEGO® Brawls, We are definitely living in that weird zone between the Christmas/New Year’s holidays and the Chinese New Year, so updates can really go in any direction. I did not expect LEGO Brawls to go with an Old West theme, though. Some new limited-time unlocks are available, and you can probably guess how they go. There are new Western-themed minifigs up for grabs each week, so be sure to check in periodically. One new feature adds weekly Leaderboards to the game so you can see how you measure up to other Brawlers in each level. And yes, bug fixes and other tweaks. You have to have those, Old West or not.

AFK Arena, Free Persona 5‘s Joker has made it his solemn mission to have as many cross-overs and cameos as Shovel Knight. The latest stop on his tour is AFK Arena, where he is available in a brand new Bountiful Trials event. Queen is also available, along with a corresponding Bountiful Trials event. That’s just the tip of the iceberg on this beefy update, so be sure to pop in and see everything that’s going on. New content, new features, UI tweaks, balance adjustments, and more can be found in this latest version of this popular game.

Star Traders: Frontiers, $6.99 Ah, I can always count on the Trese Brothers. If I need an update to put in these articles, they will always have my back. It’s not the most thrilling of updates, but we’ll take it. Many contacts can now sell access to Economic and Recruitment Rumors, and if you pay them to reveal a Rumor it will extend the duration of that rumor. There’s a little UI tweak that involves the Star Atlas, and a few bugs have been fixed. A nice way to kick off another year for this excellent strategy game.

Hidden my game by mom, Free Attention: Hidden My Game By Mom has an all-new fourth episode, with 30 new scenarios in which you have to find your game and avoid your mom’s wrath. And your sister’s wrath. And the wrath of various other family members as well. If you’ve played this game before, you know why this is exciting. If you haven’t, you should play this game. Anyway, I don’t want to spoil anything because this game is all about the surprises. I will give it the coveted UMMSotW award for the week, of course.

Fire Emblem Heroes, Free Okay, this isn’t exactly the most monumental of updates for Fire Emblem Heroes. But it is an update, and in a week like this I can’t really complain. So what is in this latest version of Nintendo’s cash cow mobile game? New weapon skills. For Arden and Genny, to be specific. Some adjustments have been made to event statuses to make them easier to understand as well. And that’s the lot. Let’s hope things are busier next time around, eh?

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
