‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’ on Mobile Getting 60 FPS Support, Full Controller Support, Virtual Control Customization, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

We learned towards the end of October that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the crowd-funded spiritual successor to the legendary Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, would be heading to iOS and Android devices, and about two weeks ago the game finally arrived in our hot little hands. The consensus was that Bloodstained itself was an excellent game and a worthy follow-up to Symphony of the Night, but your enjoyment of it would largely revolve around if you could get on with the virtual controls or not. Sadly, the virtual buttons aren’t customizable, and while there is partial controller support it’s very half-baked, so you really need to make peace with the default control scheme that’s given to you or you’re gonna have a bad time. Thankfully, myself and Shaun are both pretty okay with virtual controls so we enjoyed Bloodstained on iOS a lot, but we did point out its caveats in our Game of the Week article and our full review.

Well, if you were one of those “Don’t get along well with virtual controls" people, then you’ll be happy to hear that the mobile version’s official Twitter account tweeted out some welcome news today. They say that within a month Bloodstained on mobile will be updated with 60 FPS support, optimized support for physical controllers, and further general fixes and optimizations. In a follow-up tweet they say that they’ll continue working on the game and specifically mention “custom key assignment" which I’m taking to mean customization of the virtual buttons in the game. At least I hope that’s what they mean, because while I can deal with the default control scheme, I REALLY want to move that darn jump button. At any rate, if you were on the fence before due to control concerns, keep an eye on Bloodstained for these updates to arrive as they might just be the ticket to you enjoying one of the better modern Metroidvanias out there.
