Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I’ve gathered up a bunch of big and small names to see what they have to offer us this time around. Only as I finished did I realize that I forgot to include the Obligatory Free-to-Play Matching Puzzle Game Update. Well… I’m sure nothing bad will happen. Probably. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
AFK Arena, Free The marketing people for AFK Arena would really, really like everyone to know that Ezio from Assassin’s Creed is now in the game. That’s right. Get in the corner, SNK. We’ve got a real star in the house now. Beyond all that stuff, There’s a new Mauler hero named Drez, a new event called the Abyssal Expedition, some new adventures, a new campaign chapter, and a whole lot more. If you haven’t checked this game out yet, now is as good a time as any. I may bust the game’s chops in this feature now and then, but it’s actually surprisingly fun.
Jetpack Joyride, Free It is apparently BLING TIME again in Jetpack Joyride. Does anyone still use the word ‘bling’? You either die a 32-bit app or live long enough to see your unironic use of slang become amusingly antiquated, I guess. Anyway, the Bling Event has returned, and that means you can get cool rewards like the Golden Tophat and the Golden S.A.M. by collecting enough gold bars. You know, so you can show off to all your friends that you’re still playing Jetpack Joyride enough to actually earn the spiffy items in events. You’ll be the envy of your social circle!
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Remember a few years back, before Disney ate Fox, how Marvel was trying so hard to make the Inhumans the next X-Men even though not one person on Earth wanted that? Strange times. I don’t even dislike the Inhumans, but they’re not the X-Men and they never will be. Anyway, this new update for Marvel Future Fight is all about the Inhumans vs. X-Men stuff. There are some new uniforms for Black Bolt, Medusa, Iceman, and Kamala Khan. There are also two brand-new playable characters: Thanos’s son Thane (“You winning, son?"), and 1980s sensation Dazzler (aka the last character picked in the Konami X-Men arcade game). Black Bolt gets his Tier-3 advancement and an Awaken Potential is available for Medusa. That’s about the lot of it.
Sneaky Sasquatch, Checking in on a couple of Apple Arcade games, as I do from time to time. First up is Sneaky Sasquatch, a game whose updates are anything but hidden. That doesn’t really make sense, but I’m hoping you’re skimming fast enough that it doesn’t click. Oh no, I’ve called attention to it. Let’s move on! There is a new island to explore! Ain’t that nice? You can go surfing, and there’s a ferry to help you get to the island. There’s a new 4×4 vehicle, and you’ll notice there is now a marina below the town. To go with that, there are new boats you can buy, upgrade, and of course race. Those who prefer a slower-paced boating activity will enjoy catching 24 new saltwater fish from your favorite boat. Yeah, okay. I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. It’s a cute game and a good update.
Mini Motorways, Speaking of fun Apple Arcade games, Mini Motorways also got an update this last week. It even has a name! That’s how you know it’s important. The Rush Hour Update does not add Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, unfortunately. But it does add Fast Forward mode to speed things up, some adjustments to the game balance, more space between buildings to make it easier to connect places, and some major UI improvements. If you’re colorblind and were having issues with the game before, be sure to check out some of the new options. They should help you have an easier time of things.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free Another Eden is out there plugging away at it as usual. The latest version brings some fairly typical things along with a few special events. First of all, Anabel (Another Style) is now encounterable. Secondly, there are a couple of special limited Fateful Encounters: Special Summer Campaign and Divine Paladin Series. There are also three parts of the Ally Encounter Special Summer Campaign available to play until August 20th. That doesn’t leave you much time, so if for some reason you only get your Another Eden news in this Round-Up, you may want to put the proverbial pedal to the metal.
Lineage 2: Revolution, Free I don’t really spend a lot of time thinking about how old lines are, so I’m not sure how I’d enjoy the 5/5 experience that is Lineage 2 Revolution. But many people clearly find the game quite the bit of fancy dining, and they’ll surely be happy to see some fresh updates. I bet the notes are really detailed, let’s check them out. Oh. Oh. Well, let’s do our best here. Grade LR Equipment Update! I guess equipment of that grade has been updated? Maybe it’s a new grade. Haha, I really should have researched this before sitting down to write. Uh… New PvP Content, Dual Colosseum Update. Those seem straightforward enough. Cross-server Castle Siege ‘Aden Castle Clan War’ Update. Try saying that five times quickly. Well, who am I to argue with such fine notes? No one, that’s who. Go update your game and load it up to get something more useful if you want it, I suppose.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free When I see the title of this game, I always mentally substitute it into the Sonic Heroes theme song for a few seconds. Disney Herooooooes, Disney Heroooooooes! Well, I was working in a game store when Sonic Heroes released. We had a promo tape that basically looped that song for… you know, the whole eight hours I was working? Haha, permanent memory burn-in. What a horrible night to have a curse. This new version of Disney (not Sonic) Heroes has a new character in the form of Maximus from Tangled. Okay, sure. There’s a Surprise Hero Refresh for Gizmoduck, and an Endless Creep Surge on all servers. Well, that should keep you busy until some bigger names arrive. It’s got to be tough right now doing a game like this, given the team was probably relying on regular movie releases to keep the content rolling in. At least we’re getting some interesting deeper cuts.
Star Warsâ„¢: Galaxy of Heroes, Free This game, on the other hand, is likely less hobbled by the appearance of the virus and more by how badly the Star Wars brand has face-planted in the last few years. Well, you still get a really nice update here. No new characters, but you do get Galactic Challenges. These special battles will force you to really think carefully about your characters’ abilities and skills in order to win. Best of all, it’s content that the developer can deliver more easily on a regular basis. That means you’ll have lots of new, tough battles to fight on a semi-regular basis.
Dungeon Hunter 5, Free In a chaotic world ruled by the stone fists of sentient labyrinths, only one hero dares rise up to release the shackles placed on humanity by these vile structures: the Dungeon Hunter. Hunting dungeons all day, every day. No dungeon shall escape their wrath. Yes, I’m rambling on about nonsense, and you know what that means by now: the update notes are really thin. The coolest bit is that there are some new boss-themed armors and weapons you can acquire. The notes also talk about an Amazing Token Shop, but I somehow question its amazingness. Do you even shoot webs, bro? Some Nature and Death Sanctum Assault Missions are loaded in here, along with a greater Sanctum event. And for those starting out, you can now skip the Tutorial missions. Yay!
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
